World State Policies II: Fabianism: “With Fate Conspire”

“To play those millions of minds, to watch them slowly respond to an unseen stimulus, to guide their aspirations without their knowledge – all this whether in high capacities or in humble, is a big and endless game of chess, of ever extraordinary excitement.”

— Sidney Webb, founder of the Fabian Society.”

clip_image002Italy’s Antonio Gramsci, was one of the greatest Marxist intellectuals who played a large part in mainstreaming an Illuminist strategy for destroying Christianity and re-shaping Western culture. Since the communist revolution was only partly successful for a variety of vested interests, Leninist methods were ditched in favour of cultural Marxism that would initiate change from within, gradually and inexorably as a “long march through the institutions.” No domain of society would remain untouched. The jostling for New World Order advocates had become fused with ceremonial psychopathy allowing Illuminist inspired philosophies to reincarnate into political theory across Liberal, Conservative and Zionist ideologies, the latter grouping making up most of the progenitors of Marxist theory.

By the end of World War I the Hungarian Bolshevik Georg Lukacs had introduced the concept of “cultural terrorism” which further embedded the strategy within the minds of academia and the Elite. For Lukacs – like the industrialists who came after him – knowledge of psychology and sexual mores were integral part of social engineering towards a Marxist philosophy. Traditional perceptions of sexuality and the sacred were there to be fragmented and distorted – shattered into fragments in order to be remade towards specific aims. This would be taken on by later groups such as the Fabian Society and the massive social engineering programs of the Rockefellers and affiliated organisations.  The three streams of Establishment ideology were moving in the same direction but frequent in-fighting between factions meant that capitalist-collectivist thinking went through a variety of upheavals as it sought to find the ultimate tool for the mass mind and elite dominance.

By the 1920s, after a broadly unsuccessful attempt to change his native country Lukacs had gained a following in Germany which, with industrialist assistance, led to the creation of The Institute for Social Research based at Frankfurt University. This centre of Marxist theory later became simply The Frankfurt School a hugely influential think-tank which would become the social engineering hub for the Western mind. By the 1930s, Cultural Marxism had become a substantial force behind the scenes with psychology forming the basis of new advances in political theory. Intellectuals Theodor Adorno and Max Horkheimer were key in the development of culture as a primary force in shaping the trajectory of social perception. It was to be even more important than the emphasis on economic disparity which was so crucial to the theory of Marx. For Horkheimer, the proletariat was not the focus of future revolutions but culture as a whole. To make it work, the hybridisation of concepts was essential.

The psychoanalysis of Freud and cultural Marxism would fuse so that the concept of sexual repression and Pavlovian conditioning would eventually make the population pliable and compliant in the face of World State policies. It was to lay the foundation of a method of critical theory where social science and government institutions would be imbued with the bias of cultural Marxism inside a corporatist framework. Education meant adopting the correct attitude rather than universal morality or values. Oppression and victimhood – so much a part of the Zionist cause – was the precursor to so many “progressive” theories which value conformity, group consciousness and homogeneity at the expense of individualism and freedom. Zionism and cultural Marxism went hand in hand. As Jewish immigration to the United States gained momentum throughout the 20th century, media and entertainment were the natural focus of Jewish intellectuals since it was a double whammy of both political and cultural infiltration.

By the 1950s and 1960s the marriage of Zionism, cultural Marxism, advances in psychology and the left-over of seeds of a Nazi-imbued psychopathy were re-established with the support of the Anglo-American, liberal Establishment. It would be the crucible of change that would alter the social landscape of the US in ways unimaginable. While on the one hand eugenics was very much a part of Elite beliefs, the collective and group consciousness was promoted, so too the idea of a One World Order. Mixed in to re-shape sexuality were change agents such as Alfred Kinsey and the sexual revolution, all manner of New Age distortions and streams of the counter-culture subverted and contoured towards the same psychological conditioning. With the merging of psychoanalysis and cultural Marxism sexual perversity became normalised and instinctual drives went beyond the healing of repression to become the pinnacle of the pyramid to which all healing would aspire. Rather than “Free Love” it was free sex and liberation without limitation as an end in itself where traditional institutions and wisdom were thrown out in favour of bland mediocrity. It was indeed a Brave New World of sensation where humanism and later transhumanism and their vision of technocracy would develop the Marxist ideas into a sensate machine for the masses, the torch of Illuminism acting as a red herring and cover for core members of global occultism. The seeds of psychopathy that lay behind it never died.

Developed by the Russian revolutionary leader Vladimir Lenin, an ideology was born from political and socialist economic theories, developed from his own interpretations of Marxist theory. He advocated taking power directly as a prelude to socialism. It was a “now or never” principle where the claiming of that power was of overriding importance; the details could follow later. The term “Leninism” was popularized in the early 1920s to denote a “vanguard-party revolution”. It is most clearly seen in a quote from the final paragraph of The Communist Manifesto by Karl Marx: “The Communists disdain to conceal their views and aims. They openly declare that their ends can be attained only through the forcible overthrow of all existing social conditions.” [1]

By 1905 Lenin and his Bolshevik revolution was overseeing a return of power to the proletariat and the destruction of anything that stood in its way. The bourgeoisie had reason to be afraid. An example of Leninist group-think would be Neo-Conservatism and Revisionist Zionism. [2] Individuals such as Henry Kissinger, George W. Bush, Newt Gingrich, Paul Wolfowitz, Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld represent this line of authoritarianism. For Leninist collectivists, the wolf is openly on show. Though they would never dream of describing themselves as Leninist, it is the principle at work here.

On the other side of the coin was The Fabian Society founded in 1884 by, Sidney and Beatrice Webb, along with English writer Edward R. Pease who also became a trustee for the famous socialist creation of the London School of Economics, also founded by the Webbs. Financing magically arrived from the Rothschilds as well other international bankers including Lord Haldane who summed up the purpose of the society succinctly: “Our object is to make this institution a place to raise and train the bureaucracy of the future Socialist State.” [3]A cross-fertilisation of humanism, theosophy, and Communism took place. Lord George Bernard Shaw, H.G. Wells and Arnold Toynbee were some of the earliest members who shared their open views regarding how to shape the world on the anvil of their particular brand of socialist principles. Round table members if not directly part of the society would have been fully aware of the group as it evolved alongside at roughly the same time. More modern versions of Fabians – by nature if not always by membership – are Zbigniew Brzezinski, Gordon Brown, David Rockefeller, Robert Fuller, George Monbiot, Barack Obama and Maurice Strong.

The Fabian Society is the Anglo-American branch of cultural Marxism. Comprised of an elite group of intellectuals from the middle and upper classes a semi-secret society was formed for the express purpose of creating a socialist order without using the Marxist-Leninist methods of revolution but by facilitation and gradation – the gentle approach, much like the action of water eroding rock. They would do this by infiltrating government, education, media, law and commerce, with sophisticated propaganda playing a decisive role in their indoctrinations. The violence and direct confrontation of the Leninists was avoided, unless absolutely necessary. Established governments and institutions were targeted by the Fabians for a dose of social engineering to give qualitatively better and more enduring results. Drawing attention to the term “socialism” was considered counter-productive. Humanitarian principles such as welfare, medical care, workers rights, women’s rights, foreign aid and multiculturalism would serve their objectives without resorting to overt conflict and more importantly, the collectivist vision behind these ostensibly benign moves would never be seen for what it was, and thus easy to proceed without interference. Their hope was that their methods would spread throughout society by a form of direct and indirect educative osmosis which would then become the norm.

The late author Eustace Mullins described a social historian’s observations concerning the “rats” rather than the “wolves” of social engineering and what he considered to be the major development in the late nineteenth century: “… perhaps equivalent to the discovery of the wheel.” He was referring to the time when: “…charitable foundations and world Communism became important movements” and their new discovery: “… was the concept developed by the rats, who after all have rather highly developed intelligences, that they could trap people by baiting traps with little bits of cheese. The history of mankind since then has been the rats catching humans in their traps. Socialism – indeed any government program – is simply the rat baiting the trap with a smidgen of cheese and catching himself a human.” [4]

By 1900 the Fabian Society joined with the trade union movement which later became the political arm of the Labour Party which would eventually implement the framework of the welfare state (and some would say the normalisation of dependency and government responsibility). As a result, the Fabian Society still has a strong influence on government policy. After all, many Labour Party politicians have been Fabians including several Prime Ministers: Ramsay MacDonald MP, Clement Attlee PM, Tony Benn MP, Anthony Crosland PM, Richard Crossman MP, Harold Wilson PM, Tony Blair PM, and Gordon Brown PM.

The symbol of their elected method of gradualism is the turtle and the official shield of the Fabian Society shows an image of a wolf in sheep’s clothing symbolising the gradual shaping of society by manipulation. While Leninism is a Wolf taking what it wants directly, the Fabian ploy is by deception over longer periods of time, but a still a Wolf preying on the sheep, though it is doubtful stalwart Fabians would see it that way.

Allowing the easing of “social tension” is useful by employing socialist principles whilst maintaining the overarching capitalist system. The power inherent within the seeming dichotomy of National Socialism comprising the corporate state and Fabians’ welfare state is seen in a report from 1982 by Alan Pifer, then president of the Carnegie Corporation whom we shall turn to presently. Pifer stated there would be: “… A mounting possibility of severe social unrest, and the consequent development among the upper classes and the business community of sufficient fear for the survival of our capitalist economic system to bring about an abrupt change of course. Just as we built the general welfare state … and expanded it in the 1960s as a safety valve for the easing of social tension, so will we do it again in the 1980s. Any other path is too risky.” [5]

Nationalisation of land and government institutions, protectionism and resistance to free-trade are some of the beliefs of Fabianism. According to member George Bernard Shaw, the Society saw the enormous power of the environment as key to progressive change over time. He passionately drove this point home when he said: “We can change it; we must change it; there is absolutely no other sense in life than the task of changing it. What is the use of writing plays, what is the use of writing anything, if there is not a will which finally moulds chaos itself into a race of gods.” [6]  In their reality, we might have an inkling who will be sitting on the clouds of Olympus when these “gods” in waiting have finished offering the cure to such Hegelian chaos. To this end, Bernard Shaw designed an intriguing stained glass window for the Fabian Society. The window was installed at the Fabian Society’s headquarters but was removed in 1978 for reasons unknown. It came to light again during a sale at Sotheby’s in 2005 having been purchased by the Webb Memorial Trust and was later loaned to the London School of Economics. It depicts two men – possibly Sidney Webb and George Bernard Shaw – with large hammers pounding a globe of the world which rests on an anvil. Ten individuals kneel reverentially below while a wolf dressed in sheep’s clothing displayed on a shield hovers above the world. There is also an inscription above the globe which reads: “Remould it nearer to the heart’s desire.”

This line is from Persian poet and mystic Omar Khayyam:

“Dear love, couldst thou and I with fate conspire

To grasp this sorry scheme of things entire,

Would we not shatter it to bits,

And then remold it nearer to the heart’s desire!”

Why is the Earth placed on an anvil? To reshape and transform it into something closer to the Fabian desires. First, the earth and its people must be “shattered to bits” via methods of the Wolf that is hidden behind sheep’s’ clothing and which dominates the earthly sphere. And certainly, the best way to shatter and re-order it into a collectivist’s vision is through the fire of war and the gradualism of “social reform.”

Perhaps one of the most famous proponents of this kind of was Fabian Socialist H.G. Wells in his The Open Conspiracy: Blue Prints for a World Revolution (1928) where the seemingly laudable aims of socialism are merely used as a backdoor for something quite different. Wells, like so many of his colleagues formed the rival camp of “scientific technique” as the antidote to the Neo-Platonists of the American and German occult-romanticism of the 19th century. It was they who believed in a singularly ecological form of social order. After all, Cecil Rhodes was inspired by a form of Germanic romanticism and English eco-fascism, poetically expressed by John Ruskin to form his secret society of the Round Table. Ruskin felt that faith in science led to serious errors, Wells, however, embraced scientific rationalism which will serve the idea: “… of a planned world-state … one to which all our thought and knowledge is tending … It is appearing partially and experimentally at a thousand points … its coming is likely to happen quickly.” [7]

And where have we heard such a reference to “a thousand points” and “a New World Order”? From none other than George Bush Sr. and his State of the Union address of 1991 entitled: “envisioning a thousand points of Light” in which he declares: “What is at stake is more than one small country, it is a big idea—a new world order…” [8] The elder statesman  then proceeded to soar into unbelievable rhetoric of which Obama and Blair would have been proud. This is particularly nauseating as the speech was at the beginning of the 1991 Gulf War, the toppling of Saddam Hussein and the carnage that followed.

What Bush was really signalling to his fellow brethren was a strategic phase in the establishment of a new reality, where the merging of cartel-capitalism with World State collectivism will transcend nation boarders and simplistic notions of left-right paradigms. H.G. Wells explains the nature of the “Open Conspiracy” where its political world:

“… must weaken, efface, incorporate and supersede existing governments … The Open Conspiracy is the natural inheritor of socialist and communist enthusiasms; it may be in control of Moscow before it is in control of New York … The character of the Open Conspiracy will now be plainly displayed… It will be a world religion.” [9]

fabian-socialist-wolf-in-sheep-clothingThis stained-glass window designed by George Bernard Shaw is on display at the London School of Economics (LSE), which was founded by Sydney and Beatrice Webb. Sidney Webb and Shaw are depicted striking the Earth with hammers echoing a quote from Omar Khayyam: “REMOULD IT NEARER TO THE HEART’S DESIRE.”  A wolf in sheep’s clothing can be seen as the Fabian crest hovering above the globe, indicating its preference for gradualism (and deception). Once again, the end justifies the means, which echos both Neo-conservatism and Crowleyian occult principles. The only difference now is that we have it in a “socialist” context. Another Fabian symbol denoting the same is the tortoise. Lenin’s well-intentioned but “Useful Idiots” are lined up at the bottom worshipping at the altar of socialism which is meant to help those crushed under the flat foot of the State. Sadly, Fabian-socialists appear to offer equally damaging.

We are beginning to see at this stage its startling relationship to Illuminism and the replication of themes and principles which occur throughout literature, politics and social science. Implicit in such belief systems is society elevated to the position far above individual, community and the hope of natural networks that may operate as self-organised units, without the need of the State. By following the centralisation of government as the authority figure, society becomes so ill and pathologised that what the majority of well-intentioned capitalists and socialists appear to not understand is that Fabian manipulations on the anvil of their romantic but dangerous desires is just a tool for psychopathic ascendency. Forcing change by placing populations on an anvil of any ideology won’t work – not least if it is overshadowed by deception.

As author and journalist G. Edward Griffin observed:

If your goal is to bring about change, contentment is not what you want. You want discontentment. That’s why Marx called religion the opiate of the masses. Religion encourages contentment and dulls the anger and passion needed for revolutionary change. … Wells said that collectivism should become the new opiate, that it should become the vision for better things in the next world. He said the new order must be built on the concept that individuals are nothing compared to the long continuum of society, and that only by serving society do we become connected to eternity. [10]

Build a seductive vision appealing to every human being’s limitless belief in the romance of greener pastures and you have an instant magnetic node to attract your faithful. Philanthropy and Communism were mighty pillars in their armoury of mass control for the Rothschilds and Rockefellers alike. Rather than any altruistic or ideological reasons for their support, knowledge of how these movements served to broker power was vital to the 4Cs.

The long-lived patriarch of the 19th century John D. Rockefeller who presided over Standard Oil and the rise of corporate influence over American society viewed Communism as just another chance to make mountains of dosh. It was the ultimate monopoly made manifest, where financing both sides of any conflict could only mean a self-perpetuating and eternal source of monetary extraction sourced from State oppression. Ever greater forms of monopoly were the driving force of Rockefeller’s power and remains so for the minds who have taken on his vision. China, as exactly the communist-capitalist hybrid currently staking its claim across the world is seen as the perfect template for a neo-feudal World State. This is why John D. Rockefeller’s grandson David Rockefeller as a “china Traveller” in 1973 would sing the praises of the Maoist regime despite the despot having murdered over 40 million of his own people. The Dewy-eyed David waxed lyrical about how “impressed” he was about the “sense of national harmony” and: “… Whatever the price of the Chinese Revolution it has obviously succeeded … in fostering high morale and community purpose. General social and economic progress is no less impressive … The enormous social advances of China have benefited greatly from the singleness of ideology and purpose …The social experiment in China under Chairman Mao’s leadership is one of the most important and successful in history.” [11]

It is this form of Communism that is so attractive to the globalist mind. It serves as the perfect model: a totalitarian Elite sitting astride a top-down capitalist system of highly centralised resource management. This love of Communism was in part, entirely misplaced by the McCarthyism of the 1950s as somehow the spectre of cold war infiltration. While the persecution of certain members of Congress, and members within the media and entertainment world was inexcusable, there was, ironically, some justification for the “red menace” but a complete misunderstanding of the true cause.

Author Anthony C. Sutton reminds us that collectivism is indeed a creature of necessity in both belief systems:

It may be observed that both the extreme right and the extreme left of the conventional political spectrum are absolutely collectivist. The national socialist (for example, the fascist) and the international socialist (for example, the Communist) both recommend totalitarian politico-economic systems based on naked, unfettered political power and individual coercion. Both systems require monopoly control of society. An alternative concept of political ideas and politico-economic systems would be that of ranking the degree of individual freedom versus the degree of centralized political control. Under such an ordering the corporate welfare state and socialism are at the same end of the spectrum. Hence we see that attempts at monopoly control of society can have different labels while owning common features.

There has been a continuing, albeit concealed, alliance between international political capitalists and international revolutionary socialists – to their mutual benefit. This alliance has gone unobserved largely because academic historians have an unconscious Marxian bias and are thus locked into the impossibility of any such alliance existing. There are two clues: monopoly capitalists are the bitter enemies of laissez-faire entrepreneurs; and, given the weaknesses of socialist central planning, the totalitarian socialist state is a perfect captive market for monopoly capitalists, if an alliance can be made with the socialist powerbrokers. Suppose – and it is only hypothesis at this point – that American monopoly capitalists were able to reduce a planned socialist Russia to the status of a captive technical colony? Would not this be the logical twentieth-century internationalist extension of the Morgan railroad monopolies and the Rockefeller petroleum trust of the late nineteenth century?  [12]

In order to usher in suitable conditions for their New International Order, certain programs were to be implemented in those very tax-exempt organisations and institutions so that Americans would eventually accept the creation of a world government. This is why the principle of collectivism via Communism, internationalism, globalisation and group endeavour has been promoted by the Rockefeller and Ford Foundations, the Carnegie Endowment Centre for National Peace and the Lucis Trust. Even by 1913, there was concern by many in the US government of the day that industrialists and their philanthropic creed were not all they appeared to be. The rapid ascendency of the corporation has been achieved by the ruthless application of the 4Cs. The philanthropic foundation, though offering many altruistic peoples a platform for good deeds is still birthed from a perception that is not remotely interested in furthering the social emancipation of ordinary people. Foundations have taken advantage of the naturally growing altruism present in the normal population having expanded from a mere 21 to more than 50,000 by 1990. [13] This has been commensurate with the take-over of government by corporations and most importantly, educational policy which historically has always been the target. Such was the concern at the evolution of these strange corporate entities and their focus on education of the nation that the 662nd Congress created a commission to investigate the role of these new foundations. After one year of testimony their conclusion was definitive:

“The domination of men in whose hands the final control of a large part of American industry rests is not limited to their employees, but is being rapidly extended to control the education and social services of the nation. […] The giant foundation exercises enormous power through direct use of its funds, free of any statutory entanglements so they can be directed precisely to the levers of a situation; this power, however, is substantially increased by building collateral alliances which insulate it from criticism and scrutiny.” [14]

Yet these conclusions were to highlight the apathy and fecklessness of Congressional power, not least the relative ease to which they submitted to bribes by the Elite in return for legislative support.

An interview conducted with Norman Dodd in 1982 by writer and film-maker G. Edward Griffin, provides an interesting confirmation of the above. From his work as staff director of the Reece Committee a Congressional Special Committee to investigate tax-exempt foundations named after Congressman Carroll Reece, Dodd was tasked with investigating “un-American” activities rumoured to be circulating in large tax-exempt foundations and other institutions within America. This had been prompted by certain editorials and opinion pieces within newspapers and foundation newsletters perceived to have been unduly supportive of communist ideology. Dodd under the Reece Committee defined “un-American” as: “… a determination to effect changes in the country by unconstitutional means. …any effort in that direction which did not avail itself of the procedures which were authorized by the Constitution could be justifiably called un-American.” [15]

Before his appointment to the Reece Committee Dodd worked in banking and financial consultancy through the 1929 depression up to his appointment by the Reece Committee in 1953. His interest in seeking methods by which he could contribute to: “… the educational world to … teach the subject of economics realistically and move it away from the support of various speculative activities that characterize our country.” [16] His networking with individuals who thought the banking system was not working in the US and his obvious capacity as both a member of the stock exchange and international financial advisor brought him into contact with those at higher levels of commerce. One of these was Rowan Gaither, President of the Ford Foundation. After meeting Gaither in New York for what he assumed would be an informal and friendly welcome the CEO revealed something to Dodd that almost caused him to “fall off his chair”. An extract from the transcript follows, (or you can watch the full interview here).

“Mr. Dodd, we’ve asked you to come up here today because we thought that possibly, off the record, you would tell us why the Congress is interested in the activities of foundations such as ourselves?” Before I could think of how I would reply to that statement, Mr. Gaither then went on voluntarily and said:

“Mr. Dodd, all of us who have a hand in the making of policies here have had experience either with the OSS during the war or the European Economic Administration after the war. We’ve had experience operating under directives, and these directives emanate and did emanate from the White House. Now, we still operate under just such directives. Would you like to know what the substance of these directives is?”

I said, “Mr. Gaither, I’d like very much to know,” whereupon he made this statement to me: “Mr. Dodd, we are here operate in response to similar directives, the substance of which is that we shall use our grant-making power so to alter life in the United States that it can be comfortably merged with the Soviet Union.” […]

“Well, Mr. Gaither I can now answer your first question. You’ve forced the Congress of the United States to spend $150,000 to find out what you’ve just told me.” I said: “Of course, legally, you’re entitled to make grants for this purpose, but I don’t think you’re entitled to withhold that information from the people of the country to whom you’re indebted for your tax exemption, so why don’t you tell the people of the country what you just told me?” And his answer was, “We would not think of doing any such thing.” So then I said, “Well, Mr. Gaither, obviously you’ve forced the Congress to spend this money in order to find out what you’ve just told me.” [17]

After that experience it’s understandable that Dodd found himself accepting a post on the Reece Committee.

In 1954, Norman Dodd had been able to study the minutes of meetings from a twenty year period which he found implicated the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, the Ford Foundation, the Rockefeller Foundation, and other organisations in an intentional manipulation of the United States into World War I and explicit control of US education in order to subvert and distort history towards a collectivist ideology. Though this is one man’s testimony and much like the Kay Griggs interviews open to criticism, they are compelling for their sense of authenticity and factual confirmation. Dodd had nothing to gain from his claims and indeed the details merely confirm the beliefs and actions of the protagonists in question which derive from many other sources.

The Carnegie Endowment for international Peace, (now an international peace and foreign-policy think-tank based in Washington, D.C.) began its operations in 1908 and officially in 1910 with a $10 million gift by its founder, industrialist and J.D. Rockefeller buddy Andrew Carnegie, giving his trustees “… the widest discretion as to the measures and policy they shall from time to time adopt” in carrying out the purpose of the fund. [18]According to the minutes of this meeting the discussion revolved around the question as to whether there was a more effective means than war to change the lives of an entire populace. They concluded that there was not. In the following year the second question asked in the meeting was how could they involve the United States in a war? They decided that the control of the State Department was necessary to achieve such an aim and for that to be successful the channels of diplomacy would also have to be controlled.

During World War I another meeting took place where they decided to send a telegram to President Woodrow Wilson advising him not to end participation in the war too quickly. By the time the war had ended in 1918 their focus had shifted to how best they could mould American society towards their objectives, deciding that education with specific attention to American history must be reshaped and reformed. That was when the Rockefeller Foundation came aboard, presumably with great enthusiasm. Domestic operations would be handled by the Foundation while educational concerns at the international level would be handled by the Carnegie Endowment.

After being turned down by many academics when asked if they would “alter the manner in which they present their subject” they finally adopted the tactic of creating their own group of historians for this express purpose. The Guggenheim Foundation was found to be amenable to their designs and agreed to grant them fellowships on the Carnegie Endowment board’s say so. Eventually, twenty potential teachers of American history were sent to London, effectively told what was expected of them: securing posts that were fitting for the doctorates they had been generously granted. These twenty historians ultimately became the core grouping within the American Historical Association. Dodd states further that by the end of the 1920s:

“… the Endowment grants to the American Historical Association four hundred thousand dollars ($400,000) for a study of our history in a manner which points to what this country look forward to, in the future. That culminates in a seven-volume study, the last volume of which is, of course, in essence, a summary of the contents of the other six. The essence of the last volume is this: the future of this country belongs to collectivism, administered with characteristic American efficiency.” [19]

The minutes were transcribed by Dodd’s colleague Kathryn Casey onto dictatone files. These might reside, according to Dodd, somewhere in the US House of Representatives or Congress.

Norman Dodd succeeded in making his mark against the true “un-American” activities existing in the United States at the time. The second Congressional investigation of foundation tampering with schools and American social life ran into vociferous criticisms from corporate and political quarters which caused its disbandment soon after. Nevertheless, the committee offered their findings from an almost one-thousand page report which stated:

The power of the individual large foundation is enormous. Its various forms of patronage carry with them elements of thought control. It exerts immense influence on educator, educational processes, and educational institutions. It is capable of invisible coercion. It can materially predetermine the development of social and political concepts, academic opinion, thought leadership, public opinion.

The power to influence national policy is amplified tremendously when foundations act in concert. There is such a concentration of foundation power in the United States, operating in education and the social sciences, with a gigantic aggregate of capital and income. This Interlock has some of the characteristics of an intellectual cartel. It operates in part through certain intermediary organizations supported by the foundations. It has ramifications in almost every phase of education.

It has come to exercise very extensive practical control over social science and education. A system has arisen which gives enormous power to a relatively small group of individuals, having at their virtual command huge sums in public trust funds.

The power of the large foundations and the Interlock has so influenced press, radio, television, and even government that it has become extremely difficult for objective criticism of anything the Interlock approves to get into news channels—without having first been ridiculed, slanted and discredited.

Research in the social sciences plays a key part in the evolution of our society. Such research is now almost wholly in the control of professional employees of the large foundations. Even the great sums allotted by federal government to social science research have come into the virtual control of this professional group.

Foundations have promoted a great excess of empirical research as contrasted with theoretical research, promoting an irresponsible “fact-finding mania” leading all too frequently to “scientism” or fake science.

Associated with the excessive support of empirical method, the concentration of foundation power has tended to promote “moral relativity” to the detriment of our basic moral, religious, and governmental principles. It has tended to promote the concept of “social engineering,” that foundation-approved “social scientists” alone are capable of guiding us into better ways of living, substituting synthetic principles for fundamental principles of action.

These foundations and their intermediaries engage extensively in political activity, not in the form of direct support of candidates or parties, but in the conscious promotion of carefully calculated political concepts.

The impact of foundation money upon education has been very heavy, tending to promote uniformity in approach and method, tending to induce the educator to become an agent for social change and a propagandist for the development of our society in the direction of some form of collectivism. In the international field, foundations and the Interlock, together with certain intermediary organizations, have exercised a strong effect upon foreign policy and upon public education in things international. This has been accomplished by vast propaganda, by supplying executives and advisors to government, and by controlling research through the power of the purse. The net result has been to promote “internationalism” in a particular sense—a form directed toward “world government” and a derogation of American nationalism. [Emphasis mine] [20]

The early days of American education are soaked in corporatist-collectivist group-think and One World indoctrination which has only become more entrenched and sophisticated in its camouflage. There were constant warnings about this pathogenic infection throughout the 20th century but the strength of the funding and corruption both in Congress and in the education system itself was too strong.  It is important to take note that though this appears to be a “communist plot”, collectivism alongside corporatism are products of the genesis of evil, known in ponerological terms as “ponerogenesis.” Psychopaths are merely using the most convenient tool s to achieve their ends, a fact which has been reiterated throughout this blog so that the reader does not fall into a waiting belief-trap. An example of this can be seen in the scapegoating of the public regarding child molestation and paedophilia and the witch-hunts that followed. The climate of fear and persecution was also famously present at the McCarthy hearings. These are both examples of seriously flawed attempts to address pathocratic influence and the latter’s successful methods at countering it.

It seems the most effective way of ensuring pathocratic dominance through the application of collectivism is by co-opting education of the masses. As we have seen in the testimony of Norman Dodd this is exactly where they have focused their intentions most effectively. Fabianism is synonymous with social engineering and it is the Rockefeller Foundation that took up the gauntlet of not only helping to contour human sexuality and psychology but to target schoolchildren and therefore subsequent generations of adults in the ways of vertical collectivism alongside the principles of the 4Cs.  We also see why there were so many Fabians within Alice Bailey’s Theosophical branch of occultism which promoted the memes of group consciousness and a New World Religion sourced from the United Nations. Same ideology different societal domain. You a method of psycho-spiritual manipulation for every conceivable preference. (Obviously we cannot forget that this hugely benefits the theocratic aims of Zionism whose agents work across the whole 3EM to varying degrees. Cultural Marxism and collectivism are the most useful examples to Zionist and authoritarian Jewish leaders since it fuses seamlessly with anti-Semitism propaganda).

To fulfil their these objectives J.D. Rockefeller’s and Frederick T. Gates’ General Education Board founded in 1902 was given the task to redesign American education in way that could not be accomplished by the Carnegie Endowment or Guggenheim members alone. When combined with other Rockefeller social engineering projects, the sheer ambition and scope of their mission cannot be understated, nor the consequences of their obvious success. When you read the mission statements and objectives of The General Education Board several themes become evident all aligning themselves towards the very principles we have been exploring. Such thinking is in plain sight, with alternative possibilities entirely absent. The themes on show are actually the antithesis of good schooling. Dressed up in euphemisms for the common good we have a clear doctrine for creating an ideological system – “system” being the operative word. The intention to encourage and implement:

1.An agenda to minimize learning and understanding in favour of a specific collectivist belief.

2. The reduction of intelligence in favour of endless specialization.

3.A default emphasis on class distinction.

4. To erode and finally eliminate schooling traditions, customs and academic excellence that may lie outside of The General Education Board’s objectives.

5. The reduction of parental influence.

6. Clear indications of eugenic undercurrents, group think, homogeneity and conformity with the loss of individuality and originality.

7. The politicisation of education.

Through the 1920s and 1930s the rolling clouds of collectivism, corporatism and eugenics were beginning to form over education in America and to a lesser degree in Europe. Rockefeller agent Professor John Dewey from the Colombia Teachers College had his Progressive Education Association set up by 1920 which was to spread the Humanist philosophy and eugenics-based doctrine over educational policy. He co-authored the Humanist Manifesto in 1933 which called for a synthesizing of all religions and “a socialized and cooperative economic order.”Co-signer C.F. Potter stated in 1930: “Education is thus a most powerful ally of humanism, and every American public school is a school of humanism. What can the theistic Sunday schools, meeting for an hour once a week, teaching only a fraction of the children, do to stem the tide of a five-day program of humanistic teaching?” [21]

By 1947, that pivotal year for collectivist social models, the PEA would become the American Education Fellowship where Dewey renewed his call for the: “… establishment of a genuine world order, an order in which national sovereignty is subordinate to world authority …” Another Colombia professor Harold Rugg supported Deweys’ statements and society’s need to mould the child’s mind via a new scientific imperative where “a new public mind is to be created.” This was to be achieved:

“… by creating tens of millions of individual minds and welding them into a new social mind. Old stereotypes must be broken up and ‘new climates of opinion’ formed in the neighborhoods of America. Through the schools of the world we shall disseminate a new conception of government—one that will embrace all the activities of men, one that will postulate the need of scientific control…in the interest of all people.” [22]

Rugg’s vision was among many who saw a scientific elite ready to: “… create swiftly a compact body of minority opinion for the scientific reconstruction of our social order.” His fervour no doubt impressed the Rockefeller Foundation, enough to fund his prolific texts via the Lincoln School and the National Education Authority, both bastions of a social science that would later be known as Social Darwinism (eugenics).

And it is this “scientific control” that we will turn to next.

Satan’s Little Helpers VI: Sleepers and Electro-Shocks

“Virtually every leading psychiatrist in North America between the 1940’s and the 1970’s was involved in some aspect of the CIA’s mind control research.”

– Colin A. Ross, M.D

 TM BRAIN

In the early 1970s, US Navy Psychologist Lt. Commander Thomas Narut was assigned to the U.S. Regional Medical Centre at Naples, Italy as part of the US Navy’s assassination program. The psychologist overstepped his freedom to speak about such activities in 1975 at a NATO conference in Oslo where over 120 psychologists were in attendance which led to an interview by Sunday Times journalist Peter Watson on the conference and the Doctor’s comments. His particular contribution was ‘Dimensions of Stress and Anxiety: The Use of a Symbolic Model and Verbal Intervention in Inducing and Reducing Stress.’

Many believed it was a Navy recruiting exercise punctuated by Narut’s own self-importance which offered a little more detail than perhaps the Navy would have intended. Many other psychologists expressed amazement and concluded that the information should have been classified. He told the delegates that prisons were being used as recruiting centres for assassins who were then dispatched to various covert operations at embassies and combat zones and hot-spots world-wide, something which was also said to have taken place as part of the first decade of MK-ULTRA experiments. [1] Narut makes it clear in both the conference speech and the subsequent Sunday Times piece that the US Navy was the place in the world for a career psychologist as it had the best scientists and technology, a ready-made supply of willing guinea-pigs, plentiful funds and good logistical support to transport subjects wherever you wished.

Bowart takes up the story:

The conditioning of Narut’s assassins was accomplished by audio-visual desensitization, a standard behavior modification process. These men were ‘desensitized’ to mayhem by being shown films of people being killed or injured in a number of different ways. At first the films would show only mild forms of bloodshed. As the men became acclimated to the scenes of carnage, they would see progressively more violent scenes. The assassin candidates, Narut explained, would eventually be able to dissociate any feelings they might have from even the goriest scenes they viewed.

Narut said that of course U.S. naval psychologists would have first selected the candidates for training by their psychological make-up. Those selected for assassination assignments were often from submarine crews and paratroops.

Others were convicted murderers from military prisons who had already shown a proclivity for violence. Still others were men who had been given awards for valor. World War II Medal of Honor winner Audie Murphy was a subject of extensive research. The best killers, according to Narut, were men whom psychologists would classify as ‘passive-aggressive’ personalities. [2]

Narut it seems, got into hot water with his superiors and was forced to recant stressing that it was merely theoretical despite his repeated insistence that CIA assassination programs were “going to come out anyway.” – which they did. The doctor’s story is just one example of many psychologists being employed for psychological warfare and illegal clandestine operations but there equally numerous operations which are known to have come under the umbrella of MK-ULTRA, though no doubt known under a different name.

These included:

… the training of security officers at the Washington-based International Police Academy by psychologists and sociologists. The officers were supposedly being taught interrogation techniques for Third World countries; actually it was a highly sensitive clandestine operation organized for the training of U.S. spies. Congress closed the Academy on January 1, 1974, after its real purpose was disclosed to the press.

Another, uncovered in the late 1960s, was “Project CAMELOT,” purportedly a sociopolitical analysis of Chile, but actually designed to keep Chile free of Communist leaders by discrediting them. Project CAMELOT played an important role in the overthrow of Salvador Allende and his democratically elected leftist government.

In 1975 Congress questioned the navy about its development of a questionnaire to survey attitudes toward death. Congressmen had learned that psychologists were eagerly working on such a questionnaire, known as the “Value of Life” study, that would allow the navy to assess a recruit’s willingness and ability to kill from the very first day he entered the service. [3]

As Pathocracies emerge with a greater and greater spread of pathological infection then it isn’t a huge leap of faith to understand that mind control programs do not simply stop after a show of commissions and presidential finger-wagging. Presidents are not in control as Kennedy would surely agree. As advances in neurology, pharmacology and consciousness continued so did technology – beyond all expectations. One of the minions who proved useful in the field was Dr. José Delgado who was nothing if not thorough in his research.

In 1965, The New York Times reported on Delgado’s successful experiment in the use of electronic implants connected to the motor nervous system of a bull – the unfortunate animal was stopped from charging by remote radio-control. The bizarre capabilities of surveillance was demonstrated when he surgically implanted a cat with an electronic implant which transmitted everything the poor moggy was seeing and hearing to a TV monitor. Delgado’s foray into publishing produced Physical Control of the Mind: Toward a Psycho-civilized Society (1969) which helped to confirm his Dr. Evil status on the net – not without justification. The doc is messianic in his belief that humans will undergo “psycho-civilization” by uploading the contents of their brains directly to machines and vice versa. With statements like that it is unlikely that he was told to limit his experiments to animals.

According to a 2001 interview for Cabinet magazine conducted by artists and writers Magnus Bärtås and Fredrik Ekman there are still many of Delgado’s descriptions in his own articles and reports of how he moved from animals to humans in contemporary American medical libraries. The reporters relate how Delgado, Dr. John Mark, and other colleagues “…describe what was the first clinical use of Intracerebral Radio Stimulation (IRS) on a human being.

Dr Jose Delgado

Dr Jose Delgado

The stimoceiver itself only weighed 70 grams and was held fast by a bandage.” In an article called “Radio Control Behavior” in the February 1969 issue of The Journal of Nervous and Mental Disease there can be found:

… short descriptions of the patients who have had the device affixed to their brain. A black fourteen-year-old girl on the border of developmental disability who grew up in a foster home suddenly goes into a fury that leads to the death of her two stepsisters. A thirty-five-year old white industrial designer who ends up killing his wife and children flies into a rage when other motorists try to overtake him and he chases them and tries to run them off the road. Their aggressive behavior is supposed to be registered by the stimoceiver in the way a seismograph registers the earth’s tremors and the same stimoceiver is then to “turn them off” via the FM transmitter. [4]

In the interview Delgado admits that as far as he was aware nothing came of the IRS device due to the complexity of the brain and the unreliability of the mapping: “We never knew which parts of the brain we were stimulating with the stimoceiver. We didn’t even manage to prevent epileptic attacks, which we thought would be the simplest of things. We never found the area where  epilepsy attacks originate.” [5]  The authors reveal their surprise at his: “casual attitude towards the stimoceiver which was heralded as a great contribution to science.” Normal practice for the radar experiments in psychological control are to appropriate and integrate into covert programs. After all, mind control operations were still continuing. It was at the congressional hearings on the CIA-sponsored MK-ULTRA operations that Delgado made his famous declaration of psycho-surgery.

It seems highly improbable that such experiments were ignored especially when they often yielded startling results. To illustrate the effectiveness of electro-stimulation Delgado and his colleagues: “…orchestrated violent scenes in the lab” descriptions of which were captured in the book: The Brain Changers: Scientists and the New Mind Control, by Maya Pine:

As the film opens, the patient, a rather attractive young woman, is seen playing the guitar and singing “Puff, the Magic Dragon.” A psychiatrist sits a few feet away. She seems undisturbed by the bandages that cover her head like a tight hood, from her forehead to the back of her neck. Then a mild electric current is sent from another room, stimulating one of the electrodes in her right amygdala. Immediately, she stops singing, the brainwave tracings from her amygdala begin to show spikes, a sign of seizure activity. She stares blankly ahead. Suddenly she grabs her guitar and smashes it against the wall, narrowly missing the psychiatrist’s head. [6]

As the authors delved deeper into the experiments on people Delgado became suspicious and tense. He terminated the interview not long after.

Rather than regretting his time of psychosurgery innovation it is likely that Delgado was feeling petulant about being left out of the loop after his data was integrated into the continuing experimentation. He may have had considerable lack of success with the vagaries of brain plasticity but his work on animals was highly valued during the parallel mind control work of MK-ULTRA and other operations. Though unconfirmed, it is thought that Delgado worked on Project PANDORA as part of the CIA’s experiments into electromagnetic modulation with particular attention to scrambling the minds of soldiers on the battlefield. It was at exactly the same time that the CIA began to conduct radiation experiments on the US population, just prior to Delgado starting his research on electro-magnetic radiation and its capacity for influencing people’s consciousness.

After the 1974 congressional hearings Delgado continued his animal research managing to link his brain implants with computers. This was documented in “Two-Way Transdermal Communication with the Brain” published in 1975 where he stated:

“The most interesting aspect of the transdermal stimoceivers is the ability to perform simultaneous recording and stimulation of brain functions, thereby permitting the establishment of feedbacks and ‘on-demand’ programs of excitation with the aid of the computer. With the increasing sophistication and miniaturization of electronics, it may be possible to compress the necessary circuitry for a small computer into a chip that is implantable subcutaneously. In this way, a new self-contained instrument could be devised, capable of receiving, analyzing, and sending back information to the brain, establishing artificial links between unrelated cerebral areas, functional feedbacks, and programs of stimulation contingent on the appearance of pre-determined patterns” [7]

Delgado continued his experimentation on an island in Bermuda, where a group of gibbons were placed at his disposal. Naturally, the doctor had them all fixed with electronic brain implants which led him to discover how to build and destroy social orders using electrical brain boosts. [8]

José Delgado was one of a number of scientists popping up all over the world in response to the developing world of mind control technology. The Establishment had already advanced along the road of electrical stimulation of the brain way before Delgado came on the scene but like all such megalomaniacal individuals they were absorbed into highly compartmentalised research departments and isolated from the big picture. It is highly unlikely that the doctor new about the depth of experimentation which had already taken place and the many government projects at work parallel to his own. And like so many authoritarian followers drunk on visions of security and control, he envisaged a day when a “psycho-civilized” society would embrace an array of technology to ensure compliance and a just and balance social order.

Describing the template upon which this particular mode of technology would function: “A two-way radio communication system could be established between the brain of a subject and a computer. Certain types of neuronal activity related to behavioral disturbances such as anxiety, depression, or rage could be recognized in order to trigger stimulation of specific inhibitory structures.” Experimentation into methods of electrical stimulation of the brain and practical studies in hypnotic induction of amnesia had been taking place since the 1940s.

Radio Hypnotic Intra-Cerebral Control-Electronic Dissolution of Memory (RHIC-EDOM) made an entry into the public domain in 1967 by writer Lincoln Lawrence who floated the idea that Lee Harvey Oswald, and by extension Jack Ruby and Sirhan Sirhan had all been programmed RHIC-EDOM. The Russians had not been responsible but: “… an international cartel of commodities merchants who sought to make millions by driving the market down with the assassination of a president—any president.”

He stated further:

“Lee Harvey Oswald was to be utilized as an RHIC controlled person … somewhat like a mechanical toy. An RHIC controlled person can be processed …. allowed to travel to any country … and be put to use even years later by the application of RHIC controls. In short, like the toy, he can in a sense be ‘wound up’ and made to perform acts without any possibility of the controller being detected.

“Under RHIC, a ‘sleeper’ can be used years later with no realization that the ‘sleeper’ is even being controlled! He can be made to perform acts that he will have no memory of ever having carried out. In a manipulated kind of kamikaze operation where the life of the ‘sleeper’ is dispensable, RHIC processing makes him particularly valuable because if he is detected and caught before he performs the act specified … nothing he says will implicate the group or government which processed and controlled him.” [9]

A small electrode was implanted inside Oswald’s mastoid sinus which would respond to radio signals which he could hear inside his head. The messages would be enhanced by post-hypnotic suggestions and conditioning which would effectively make Oswald into a Robot assassin. According to Bowarts’ research the Dallas autopsy report included a small scar on the mastoid sinus behind Oswald’s ear.

The author includes more evidence of RHIC-EDOM reaching the public in 1975 this time from journalist, James L. Moore, who claimed he had classified documents leaked to him by CIA officials contained information concerning RHIC-EDOM. The 350-page scientific report was prepared by the CIA immediately after the murder of President John F. Kennedy and described a method changing men into what could effectively be called cyborgs who could kill on command. According to Moore, the first part of the induction meant undergoing deep hypnosis whereupon specific tones were used to induce a deep-state trance so that feelings could be initiated. The signals were directed to specific areas of the brain which dealt with emotion, fear, anger, etc. in order to maximize and enhance the required actions. The tones could and the subsequent instructions could be triggered not just over a period of weeks but if necessary, throughout the individual’s lifetime.

This was followed up with the electronic dissolution of memory (EDOM) which is achieved through effectively jamming the natural pathways of the brain’s electrical impulses. The chemical involved in this process is acetylcholine whose job is to carry electrical impulses from various parts of the body such as eyes and ears, nerve endings etc. back to the brain where memory is located. Since memory is made of electrical impulses produced from these pathways of acetylcholine, static is created from the jamming of the brain and sights and sounds are blocked. No memory will exist of your action within that period. According to these same documents variable memory manipulation is thus achievable along with a variety of modifications according to the drugs and type of hyno-programming used. James L. Moore’s source stated: “That was the first thought to hit us at CIA. It’s pretty obvious that Ruby was programmed to kill Oswald, even by Ruby’s own words … As for Sirhan, there is no other explanation; it’s a proven fact that his memory has been completely erased.” Moore was in doubt that: “… the assassination of John Kennedy … was carried out by disgruntled CIA and FBI personnel, using Mafia and Cuban exile flunkies.’” [10]

One might be forgiven for thinking that all this information is just too whacky to be considered a sensible appraisal of the military-intelligence apparatus. Unfortunately, the vast amount of declassified commission reports despite redacted material) science patents and witness and victim testimony from many disparate sources confirms the veracity of the above.

In 2013, a report detailing a DARPA-funded program in “Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation” (TMS) appears to indicate that the tradition is alive and well. At the Center for Strategic Communication, based at Arizona State University headed by Steve Corman, a man with extensive experience of PSYOPS strategies in the context of terrorism The objective is: “… to remotely disrupt political dissent and extremism by employing in tandem with sophisticated propaganda based on this technology.”

Such research is given the PR gloss that it pertains to foreign war games when in fact it is more likely to target a domestic populace as social and economic strife increases. According to phase 3 of the study paper entitled: entitled: “Toward Narrative Disruptors and Inductors: Mapping the Narrative Comprehension Network and its Persuasive Effects” the ideal is to terminate lines of thinking in favour of thoughts they would not normally be prepared to believe. In a military context we can understand that this is not likely to be persuading people to see through Establishment deceptions – quite the opposite. They intend to do this by: “… selectively alter[ing] aspects of narrative structure and brain functions via Transcranial Magnetic Simulation (TMS) to induce or disrupt selected features of narrative processing.” [11]

© infrakshun

Cognitive reasoning and narrative comprehension is covered by one research group whose job it is to restrict or “disrupt or enhance” those parts of the brain responsible for narrative structure and/or brain functioning to minimize or maximize persuasive effects on subject proclivity to engage in political violence.” [12] Once knowledge of neural networks is understood in this context (memory, attention, narrative processing etc.) this can pave the way for “strategic communication” messages delivered through TMS, replacing the particular belief systems with what will obviously be the government’s preferred options. Disrupting or inducing “narrative validity” of the mass mind in favour of the “transportation and integration” of the waiting socio-cultural belief system is confidently predicted to be eminently doable. These researchers agree that such a science of “narrative persuasion” and disruption has/will have “considerably practical and strategic importance.” [13]

This is well-funded academic research headed by those with considerable experience in reaching similar goals in military PSYOPS field. And let us be absolutely clear what this kind of military funding is seeking: the disruption of the way people think and process ideas and stories so that they can be replaced with versions of their own. They going to the core of how people process and arrive at beliefs at the neurological level. Armed with this knowledge: “Mechanical disruptions of narrative processing may be, ultimately, replicated through targeted strategic communication campaigns that approximate the narrative disruptions induced via magnetic stimulation.” [14]

Using the data from TMS they will transfer these effects to words and messages targeted to specific centres of the brain. Combine with this with Neuro-Linguistic Programming, (NLP) audio and visual subliminal technology and a number of other known inverted self-help modalities there is enormous scope to mold the mass mind over and above standard technological advances within marketing, advertising and PR, already bristling with innovations. The combination of these elements is truly terrifying and not a modicum of force has been used as oppose to the kind overt coercion that we see in classical totalitarian regimes.

This paper and its practical research capabilities is one of the most disturbing examples of mind control yet seen. Although impossible to find on the internet at its original source, the fact it that it was publicly available does beg the question what is occurring at the classified level of research. Occasional leaks like this one from so many outsourced research units is perhaps inevitable in the Information Age. What it does do is add more pieces of evidence that control of the mass mind is as vital to the Pathocracy as it has ever been. Once you have complete knowledge as to what parts of the brain work and how to circumnavigate those who exhibit truly independent thinking all you need are the covert means to introduce such testing. As the emerging revolution in SMART society shows us, plasma televisions, smart phones and the constant reminder of the benefits of a fusion of man and machine should give us considerable pause.

Since we live in an outsourced, corporate world where employees’ ignorance of the State and their own lack of social conscience offers a perceived insulation them from ethical responsibility, it is much easier to advance technology in weapons, nanotech, microbiology and neuro-psychopharmacology industries than it was in the past. As long as scientists and lab technicians and the brightest men and women can work with whom they consider the best and receive a fat pay cheque for their trouble then any moral oversight is passé. The thrill of creativity and problem solving becomes a willing dance with the devil. Our individual, daily choices are as important as the collective ones yet our capacity to choose subjectivity over a nagging objective reality remains stubbornly fixed.

If it was possible to change the mind of an individual so that he or she acts on behalf of the State decades ago, where are we now with the huge advancements in technology and the rise of a technocratic, outsourced elite? Can we be sure that these advances have not been adapted to large numbers of people – even whole populations?

Amerikan Beauty IV: The Franklin Cover-Up

Originally filmed as a documentary about the Franklin Cover-Up for the U.K.’s Yorkshire television, Conspiracy of Silence was pulled prior to airing due to immense pressure from the US government. All recordings were thought to be destroyed. Luckily, some bright spark saved a copy on U-matic tape format which eventually found its way to the internet. Twenty years later, the story remains a powerful piece of documentary film-making, and as relevant today as it was then.

The raiding of the Franklin Community Credit Union in Omaha, Nebraska, in 1989, led to a series of investigations which unearthed much more than the revelation of money-laundering. The probe culminated in a scandal involving the systematic abuse of young girls and boys by officials in local government, entertainment, media, up to the Whitehouse and Bush Sr.’s Oval office door. Washington D.C. and other cities were connected to Omaha which acted as the clearinghouse for the massive numbers of children involved in the high-level abuse. Children were used as “drug mules” in order to sexually compromise politicians and other prominent and powerful people around the country. In other words, it was another example of sexpionage – the American way…

The-Franklin-Cover-UpThe Franklin Cover-Up [1] now in its second edition, was written by John De Camp a former Nebraska State senator and ex-Vietnam veteran. Decamp recounts his continuing fight to defend two victims of the paedophile sex ring: Paul Bonacci and Alicia Owen, the only persons remaining as victims of the abuse. Many victims have been murdered or silenced with threats and intimidation. Others have not contemplated coming forward due to the nature of the abuse and the shame and guilt induced. Moreover, with 15-30 suspicious deaths linked to the case it is hardly surprising that many decided against it. (Bonacci also claims to have been involved in the kidnapping of Johnny Gosch/Guckert/Gannon which we will explore presently. Whether it is truly the same person remains to be discovered).

One particular death which had the calling card of the CIA was that of Gary Caridori who was killed the night before he was about to testify. A careful and meticulous pilot, he was flying back from Chicago when his private plane blew up in mid-air, killing his little boy with him. No cause has been determined. As with the Dutroux case and others, suspicious deaths seem to mandatory when investigations ensue.

A list of the dead follows who were all deeply connected with some aspect of the Franklin case:

  1. Bill Baker – He was a restaurant owner in Omaha, and a partner of Larry King in homosexual pornography operations. He was found shot in the back of the head.
  2. Shwan Boner – Brother of victim-witness Troy Boner, he died of a gunshot wound from ‘Russian Roulette.’
  3. Gary Caradori – Chief investigator for the legislative Ranklin Committee, Caradori told associates days before his death that he had information that would ‘blow this case wide open.’ He died when his plane crashed on July 11, 1990.
  4. Andrew ‘A.J.’ Caradori – Died at the age of 8, in the plane crash with his father.
  5. Newt Copple – A confidential informant for Caradori and his investigative firm, Copple was a key behind-the-scenes activist fighting the cover-up of the Franklin case. Son of Commonwealth Savings owner S.E. Copple, businessman in his own right, an ex-champion wrestler with no prior health problems and parents who lived into their late eighties and nineties, Copple suddenly ‘died in his sleep’ in March 1991, at the age of 70.”
  6. Clare Howard – The former secretary of Alan Baer, who arranged Baer’s paedophile trysts, Howard ‘died in her sleep’ in 1991.
  7. Mike Lewis – A former caregiver for victim-witness Loretta Smith. He died of a ‘severe diabetic reaction’ at the age of 32.
  8. Joe Malek – associate of Larry King and owner of Peony Park, where homosexual galas were held. His death from gunshot was ruled a suicide.
  9. Aaron Owen – the brother of victim-witness Alicia Owen. He was found hanged in his cell in Lincoln, Nebraska, hours before one of his sister’s court appearances.
  10. Charlie Rogers – A reputed homosexual partner of Larry King, Rogers said that he feared for his life, in the days before his death. His head was blown off with a shotgun, in what was ruled a suicide.
  11. Dan Ryan, an associate of Larry King. He was found strangled or suffocated in a car.
  12. Bill Skoleski – An officer in the Omaha Police Department who was believed to be keeping a file on Larry King, he died of a heart attack.
  13. Kathleen Sorenson – The foster parent for Nelly and Kimberly Webb after they fled the home of Larry King’s relatives, Jarrett and Barbara Webb, she was an outspoken activist against Satanism.
  14. Curtis Tucker – An associate of Larry King, he fell or jumped out of the window of the Holiday Inn in Omaha.
  15. Harmon Tucker – A school superintendent in Nebraska and Iowa, a reputed homosexual, his death had signs of satanic ritual murder. He was found dead in Georgia, near the plantation which Harold Andersen and Nebraska-Iowa FBI chief Nicholas O’Hara used for hunting.”
  16. Bill Colby – One time director of the CIA and according to De Camp, the “heart and soul of the Franklin Case.”

After the full extent of financial corruption at Franklin Community Credit Union became clear, further probing revealed that the GOP operative Lawrence E. “Larry” King Jr. recently released from prison, allegedly hired photographers to capture legislators and high officials in acts of child rape and molestation. King had not only participated in financial fraud but supervised the running of these paedophile operations in which hundreds of children were systematically raped.

According to De Camp:

At the Dallas [GOP] convention in 1984, King threw his splashy party at Southfork Ranch, remembered by me and many other delegates as an unparalleled extravaganza. According to several victim-witnesses, he also arranged some private events during the convention. They recall being flown to Dallas, to be sexually used by convention-goers. Gary Caradori mapped the recollections of the Webb foster children in his notes of February 1990:

‘During this visit [the children’s aunt] Marcy informed [social worker] Joanie that [the youngest Patterson Webb sister] Kendra had told her she had been transported around the country several times, she thought to Texas and Louisiana. Marcy remembered Texas in particular, and a Republican Convention because one of the children, possibly Kendra, had a book of matches from Texas and that is how the children had known where they were at. Joanie stated she remembered that the children had been exploited sexually in Texas, and she indicated that it was [the] feeling this activity had been occurring for several years.’ […]

I was later to learn from Paul Bonacci, that he was also at the famed Southfork party. He described it for me in exact detail, some seven years after the party took place. He had been here for the purpose of providing sexual favors for people Larry King wanted to accommodate, satisfy, or compromise. Paul said he was one of a troop of teenage boys and girls, whom King had shipped to Dallas for his purposes. [2]

Alicia Owen is a particularly tragic symbol of modern day America’s corrupt justice system and government. Before Decamp became her attorney, a court case was held which resulted in Ms. Owen refusing to recant and being charged with perjury and sentenced to 15 years in prison. Ms. Owen’s testimony concerning forced sexual activities with highly placed officials from law enforcement to the government did not go down well. Having been abused for most of her life, Alicia Owen was now branded a criminal for telling the truth. In Decamp’s words: “This girl never went out looking for somebody to tell her story to. Somebody got her name and went to see her and offered her immunity. Alicia was told that if she didn’t tell what happened that she would really be in deep trouble. So she told it all and the next thing she knew, she was the one being charged.”What further compounds the misery of all the victims is that: “King went to prison for embezzlement, conspiracy and making false financial record entries…there was no trial on any other charges, and the evidence of child prostitution and abuse perpetrated by King was never presented in any court.” [3]

There was however, some good news.

On February 5, 1999, in U.S. District Court in Lincoln, Nebraska, Paul Bonacci’s civil action was successful and he was awarded $1,000.000 dollars in damages in a US court of law. Judge Warren K. Urbom ordered Lawrence King – who was then serving his sentence in Federal prison – to pay the $1 million in damages in what amounted to a clear vindication of the evidence presented. Alicia Owen was also released from prison. However, according to Johnny Gosch’s mother, Noreen Gosch she: “… is keeping a very low profile. She’s terribly scared since her brother was murdered as a warning to her to keep her mouth shut. She does not do any interviews. Her parents will not do interviews. They live in fear.”

The Franklin Scandal offered a glimpse into the child rape networks still operating across the world and which have a particular connection to the global obscenity of human trafficking. The case also offered insights into the journey of Jeff Gannon, aka James Guckert or perhaps Johnny Gosch, a paperboy who disappeared on Sept. 5, 1982, in West Des Moines, Iowa. His mother, Noreen Gosch can’t be certain that Guckert is one and the same, but she would understandably like to know. [4]

After being ignored by the local police, the FBI and Department of Criminal Investigation in Iowa she decided to hire private investigators that provided her with some interesting tit-bits of information. However, it was to be the press conference she held back in 1982, way before the heat from the Franklin affair was to hit the headlines that would stir up a veritable hornet’s nest. She received her first death threat which confirmed to her that she was tapping into the same cover-up from a different direction to DeCamp. She was told: “Stop making waves or you are going to die.”

It was in 1997 that she believes Johnny Gosch, then 24 years-old, paid her a visit. A lengthy extract follows describing the meeting:

There was a knock at my door at about 2:30 a.m. I went to the door and I could see through the peephole that there was a young man outside. I said, “Who’s there?” He said, “It’s me, mom. It’s Johnny.” I could see that there was someone with him, but I let them in. I don’t know who the other young man was.I asked, but he declined to tell me.

Johnny would have been about 24 years old at this point.

What did he tell you?

It was very emotional. I asked if I could call someone to come and help us, thinking that he was home to stay. But Johnny was so terrified. He said, “You don’t understand. You can’t call anyone. No one can know that I’ve been here. If you do, my life is in danger and yours might be, too. They will kill me for what I know.’Instead of pushing this issue, I said to myself, ‘No, I’m going to let him talk and tell me what’s happened.’ So, during our hour-and-a-half time that we had together. I learned a lot. I asked him names of people. I asked him how they did their organization. What methods did they use to traffic in children?

He was here in 1997, but I kept silent for two years and didn’t tell anyone about his visit until 1999 when I was on the witness stand testifying for Paul Bonacci in his civil case. But what I had done in the meantime was to make an appointment with the county attorney. I went in and told him that I had information from an informant. I gave the county attorney the names of the people involved and how the organization worked and asked him to begin an investigation. I did not tell him that the informant was my son.

Did the county attorney investigate?

No, he said that he would not. The only reason he gave was that I would have to somehow convince my informant to turn himself in and be a part of the witness protection program and that they “might” be able to give my informant (Johnny) immunity for any crimes he may have committed during his captivity.

I looked at the county attorney and said, ‘They ‘might’ be able to give him immunity? That doesn’t work for me.’ He responded, ‘Well, you’re going to have to turn over the boy.’ I said, ‘I don’t have the boy.’ I didn’t tell him that it was Johnny, but I did tell him that ‘the informant” had told me that Johnny was still alive.

I said to the county attorney: ‘I came here to share information with you as I always have. This way I can never be charged with withholding information. If you choose not to investigate, that’s up to you. I will continue my investigation as I always have.’ [5]

The self-professed CIA agent Paul Bishop miraculously appeared on the scene in 1984 to “assist” Noreen Gosch during the period of his disappearance. He disappeared from the Gosch’s lives in 1985 without a word and since reappeared under arrest in February 4th, two weeks before Gannon-gate scandal and reportedly charged with possessing obscene material.

This CIA asset may have been assigned to monitor the situation while genuinely wanting to help the Gosch family understand their son’s disappearance. The latter is unlikely, however. Whether he was warned off initially and set-up once again is open to speculation. To have such a flurry of events taking place around the subject of child prostitution and exploitation all in one month suggests that someone, somewhere was trying to put out a fire.

Meanwhile, Noreen Gosch self-published a book: Why Johnny can’t come home which details the events surrounding her son’s disappearance. She also spoke in court in support of Bonacci singling out in particular U.S. Army Lt. Col. Michael Aquino (ret) as a primary mover in the paedophile ring that abducted her son, Johnny Gosch. She established a clear link that the military was involved which was mirrored in the high profile Presidio Affair several years previously. (More on this in later posts).

Returning to DeCamp’s book, while the second edition is said to have some factual inaccuracies, the consistent, on the ground confirmation of the victims’ testimonies is compelling. DeCamp illustrates the nature of King’s parties and how many of the dignitaries and officials were a mixture of the complicit and the clueless. It seems homosexual blackmailing operations were part of a tag team between Craig Spence and Larry King who were also previous business partners. DeCamp also includes suggestions that King was involved with arms shipments and procurements which always seem to merge with trafficking and child rape networks somewhere down the line.

lawrenceking9bdAfter Craig Spence was “suicided” in the Boston Hotel in November 1989, Decamp observes that: “… it was the latest in the long string of deaths of persons linked to Iran-Contra covert operations and funding. There is evidence that Larry King had Washington business in that area as well. ‘In the 6 ½ months since federal authorities closed Franklin, rumors have persisted that money from the credit union somehow found its way to the Nicaraguan contra rebels,’ said a World Herald article on May 21, 1989.” [6]

What must have perplexed the authorities who were unaware of the scale and depth of the operations was the reoccurring name of George Bush Senior. The child sex, pornography ring run out of Nebraska by Larry King went all the way up to the White House. This was not due to any particular rumour or hearsay but documented testimonials and facts that would never find their way to court. A Nebraska state police report, Nebraska Foster Care Review Board letter to the Attorney General, Nebraska Senate’s Franklin committee investigative report, and a 50-page report by Omaha’s Boys Town welfare case officer Mrs. Julie Walters, were all ignored. Victims of the paedophiles and pederasts were Kimberly and Nelly Webb who described their abuse in the report, an extract of which follows:

Nelly said at these trip parties hosted by Larry King, she sat naked ‘looking pretty and innocent’ and guests could engage in any sexual activity they wanted, but penetration was not allowed…Nelly said she first met V. P. George Bush at the Republican Convention where King sang the national anthem, and saw Bush again at a Washington, DC party Larry hosted…Last year she met V.P. Bushand saw him at one of the parties Larry gave while on a Washington, DC trip. At some of the parties there are just men (as was the case at the party George Bush attended)…Nelly said she has seen sodomy committed at those parties. […]

On December 19, 1988, Nelly was contacted and voluntarily came to the FBI offices on December 30, 1988. She was interviewed by Brady, Tucker and Phillips…in September or October, 1984 when Lisa was 14 she went to Chicago with Larry King and 15-20 boys from Omaha…She indicates she attended a party in Chicago with King and the male youths. She indicated George Bush was present…she sat at a table at the party wearing nothing but a negligee. She stated George Bush saw her on the table. She stated she saw George Bush pay King money and Bush left the party with a nineteen year old black boy named Brent. Lisa said the party Bush attended was in Chicago in September or October 1984. The Chicago Tribune of October 31, 1984 said Bush was in Illinois campaigning for congressional candidates at the end of October. [7]

Both Kimberly and Nelly brought up the name of George Bush Sr. on other occasions most frequently in “in Lowe’s May, 1989 review of reports by Thomas Vlahoulis from the state attorney general’s office suggesting that they had not only seen Bush, but had met him in person. Despite the four successful polygraph tests administered by a Nebraska state trooper, numerous debriefings of the sisters by foster care officials and youth workers all of whom were convinced they were telling the truth, including Julie Walter’s detailed 50 page report mentioning George Bush Sr., a Nebraska judge in December, 1990 ignored all the evidence and dismissed all charges against their foster parents Jarrett and Barbara Webb, who Nelly and Kimberly said had consented to their abuse.

The testimonies of the two girls and other victims who had the courage to come forward were continually discredited. According to One report from World-Herald in July 1989 “attributed the mention of Bush to a person ‘under psychiatric care,’…In reality, the report was from Nelly Patterson Webb.” [8]  And if we are honest, there was no way possible that such a story was ever going to gain momentum.

The Bush family Empire has had – directly or indirectly – its sticky fingers in most underworld crimes, from narcotics to assassinations, financial fraud to organised child abuse networks. Since they are the equivalent of American royalty with actual ties to the British monarchy, an almost impenetrable net of protection and security allows them and others of the Anglo-American Establishment to continue their crimes far from public scrutiny. If persons get too close or those in the same exploitative business become a liability, they become “surplus to requirements” and added to the growing list of those who have been “suicided,” a fate, some believe was visited upon the beat generation writer, Hunter S. Thompson.

Thompson was as outspoken as he was literary pioneer and scathing about the modern world he found himself inhabiting. He once said: “If I’d written all the truth I knew for the past ten years, about 600 people – including me – would be rotting in prison cells from Rio to Seattle today. Absolute truth is a very rare and dangerous commodity in the context of professional journalism.”

bush_2474856bThe Bush Dynasty: Vanguards of sexual psychopathy?

It was a little suspicious that the writer killed himself with a gun no more than a few hours after the Jeff Gannon scandal hit the news. If the allegations that Thompson was involved in the production of “snuff” films is true, and with persistent claims and testimonies from abused children to support those allegations, then his apparent suicide becomes even less tenable. There is the possibility that he killed himself due to guilt from his underground role as a “snuff” movie film-maker. Or perhaps he’d just had enough of the world – given his past and complex personality this would understandable. Author of The Franklin Scandal Nick Bryant believes that there is nothing to support this theory other than hearsay and rumour. Paul Bonacci, one of the main witnesses in the Franklin case gave detailed accounts of his abuse in Nevada and recalled specifically Thompson as the man who filmed the crimes which included forced necrophilia and murder. Bryant makes it clear however, that Bonacci had no idea what Thompson looked like, nor is it likely that the writer would have introduced himself with his own name as alleged.

Perhaps it is simply the fact that Thompson had had enough of his involvement with an Establishment and country he saw as morally bankrupt, describing it as: “… a nation of two hundred million used car salesmen with all the money we need to buy guns and no qualms about killing anybody else in the world who tries to make us uncomfortable.” He was part of it nonetheless. Whether it was a sign of his own self-loathing and partial collaboration with the Establishment mechanisms it seemed he had reached a point of indifference regarding his own safety when he publicly stated how he felt about the Bush dynasty at the time:  “… little rich kids like George Bush? ….. They speak for all that is cruel and stupid and vicious in the American character…. I piss down the throats of these Nazis. And I am too old to worry about whether they like it or not. Fuck Them.”

Hear, hear.

Hunter S. Thompson early 1970s. In his suicide note he wrote: “Relax – This won’t hurt.”

Paul Bonacci was also able to provide a compelling testimony to the presiding judge regarding the descriptions of the ritual meeting ground where some of the snuff films were allegedly carried out. It was none other than Bohemian Grove * located in forested area outside Sacramento, California, a place where the rich and powerful play at being neo-pagans with much pomp and ceremony. This includes enacting all kinds of silly rituals in front of a statue of an Owl called Moloch and getting excited about “human sacrifices.” [9]  The site is heavily guarded and extremely secure. A video of what goes on at the Grove was secretly filmed a few years ago and gives an insight into the kinds of activities our would-be leaders get up to on their days off. Taking into account the fact Bonacci would have been a child at the time of his abuse he was able to describe his surroundings in sufficient detail – including the Owl – for the court to rule that this was indeed Bohemian Grove. As such, there may be a much more sinister side to the pantomime than perhaps even some of the participants are aware of.

Other events during Gannon-gate suggest damage limitation.

According to De Camp’s book, a photographer called Rusty Nelson was allegedly involved in recording a great deal of the child rape for Larry King’s blackmail purposes, accompanying him on his lavish parties in order to take the photos of high-profile individuals in compromising positions with young boys and girls. Nelson said he was once offered $50,000 by Hunter Thompson to help film one of his snuff movies, which he declined.

With a somewhat chequered history revealing a past interest in photographing underage girls, Nelson nevertheless vehemently denied involvement in child prostitution and pornography. It is highly likely that Nelson knows a great deal more than he admitted to in court, yet he confirmed Bonacci’s testimony to Judge Urbom:

Q: Children on the airplane?
A: Yes.
Q: How young?
A: There was one situation went back to Washington, DC…he had probably 10, 12 years old…
Q: Boys, girls?
A: Both…
Q: Who attended the parties?
A: Prominent business people, very prominent high-ranking officials, politicians. The younger people. What would transpire was they would have a party and then a party after the party…after the party was more of a sex-type deal…That’s what Larry [King] would….
Q: These old politicians were having sex with each other?
A: Or people Larry would bring…some younger people
Q: Did you take pictures of the parties?
A: I took pictures at some of the parties, yes…” [10]

Two days after Thompson’s death, Nelson was arrested, for failing to register as a sex offender in a county of which he was no longer a resident. Many believed this to be a warning.

When the identity of James Guckert / Johnny Gosch was revealed in February 2005 the corporate-compromised media ignored a potentially explosive story on the iniquities of the White House. With orders from on high to the respective editors, it is unlikely that the initial window of opportunity will be reopened. It will be consigned to the self-perpetuating bubble of speculation, rumour and five second attention spans so favoured in the American media.

What we can deduce from this sordid mess are the links between child abuse, high-level child rape networks, arms, narcotics and human trafficking not only overlap and operate on a symbiotic basis but are sanctioned from the highest levels of our societies’ institutions from a mixture of apathy, ignorance and purposeful intent. I hope this very brief look at some of the child abuse scandals of the past will help the reader understand that this is far from exceptional. Rather, we are dealing with a glimpse into an abyss which has become deeper over the last ten years as a symptom of wide scale ponerisation of our Western societies in particular.

In the next post we will look at the further examples of organised abuse which flows through the tributaries of the military and security-corporate complex.

* Bohemian Grove is a 2,700-acre campground located at 20601 Bohemian Avenue, in Monte Rio, California, belonging to a private San Francisco-based men’s art club known as the Bohemian Club. In mid-July each year, Bohemian Grove hosts a two-week, three-weekend encampment of some of the most powerful men in the world. One of the crowning glories of the event is the worship of a 40ft Owl with fire and brimstone chanting which is so laughable it has to be seen to be believed. The fact that elder statesman and government and corporate officials behave in this way is bad enough but dressing up silly costume and chanting praise to an effigy of a massive owl is more than disturbing. Rule of Law? IV: Gender Bending and the True Enemy

Feminism – at least as we know it today – and its various complex sub-categories of benign and malign forces had its beginnings way back in the 19th century. The religious influences upon men and women had defined those roles for millennia; the assumed inferiority to man and her qualities of “temptress” alongside “feminine wisdom” was the backdrop to the burning of witches in the Middle Ages to the witch-hunts of the 17th century and the stultifying sexual repression of Victorian England.

In the United States, the roles of men and women were already defined before the Founding Fathers arrived and changed Native American lives forever. Long before the UK suffragettes began rebelling against these enforced roles, it was taken for granted that women existed as mothers and wives, a presumption that was both divinely ordained and thus a natural duty. The developing democracy rested on man as the giver or provider and women as the enabler or nurturer. Women were more or less property of the husband with the belief in the sacred mother-child bond and the woman’s natural instinct for child rearing. The physical prowess of the male (imagined or otherwise) determined that the “hunter-gatherer” would do just that.

The inability of the woman to provide for herself was also directly related to the male holding the reins of financial power which precluded any property rights or ability to earn for women. That being so, in early England and America up to the mid-1800s, fathers had sole rights to custody, because custody was closely tied to inheritance and property law.[1]  Several early feminist activists of the day, most notably English-born Caroline Norton fought to have these ruling turned in favour of women after being deprived of her own children in the aftermath of divorce. [2] That changed when the legal principle of the Tender Years Doctrine automatically gave rights to mothers based on what was seen as developmentally sensitive years of 13 and under.

Custody rights were shaped by these gender precepts: the love and emotional support of the mother and the more distant, intellectual, financial provision of the father. These gender roles were sacrosanct in society and in law. Upon the arrival of the Industrial Revolution, the nuclear family was in the process of disintegrating due in part, to fathers having to go further afield to locate work opportunities. The British Empire was the hub of this economic and capitalist revolution which would have serious repercussions for family and community.

Although initially new wealth was created for Western European peasantry due to outsourcing by emerging companies, this soon changed. The majority of middle and working class women worked from home. The American economy for example, relied a great deal on home businesses such as woodwork and textiles. With centralisation came disenfranchisement and disconnection from communities built on these crafts and skills intimately connected with an understanding of the land. Factories replaced a network of cottages industries largely dominated by women and their highly skilled handcrafts. The home traditionally carried by women was replaced with mass production. Women’s domestic duties rapidly disappeared so that rearing children for the majority became their only destiny. Single mothers and young women often had to move into boarding houses close to factories with the consequent lack of sanitation and poorly paid wages that accompanied such a move.

In summary, the gender roles became increasingly defined by economic constraints where the male breadwinners were the benefactors of monetary power. This meant that fathers’ capacity to nurture their children from the masculine polarity was further reduced at the same time the mothers’ foundation for community and cottage industry income was removed.

When set against custody decisions the differences became stark. Since women’s only validation for their existence was now from the maternal role it was seen as horribly cruel to deny the mother what was after all seen as a biological and thus a fundamental right due to this new social prison. The father however, was forced to provide economically for his children without ever having rights to see them. Emotional bonds of mother and child were reinforced while the father’s presence became a purely financial consideration.

Through no fault of his own and from the causes of macro-social forces rather than intrinsic gender pre-dispositions, fathers’ rights in custody battles became increasingly fractured due to the obvious fact that women were indeed spending much more time with their children and thus having the advantage when questioned by the judge regarding “quality time”. By the late 20th century very few fathers now retained children in custody trials. [3]

The idea that the mothers had an unassailable right to child custody was now firmly entrenched in the legal system. But what made this doubly unfair that with the onset of the World War and its closure, women had rightly become wage earners in their own right therefore taking on the male role as provider and nurturer. [4]  Prevailing views cemented these stereotypes by presuming that unless women were financially destitute and compelled to work it was unnatural and morally wrong, whereas if the man’s career ambitions evolved to the total exclusion of the family unit, functioning as a hotel to be fed and watered, this was somehow understandable and correct, despite the fact that many men so desperately wanted a relationship with the children. At this stage, socio-cultural dictates in general were making it difficult for men to be emotionally in touch with their feelings at all, let alone to express a natural desire that true shared parenting was perhaps healthy and vitally important.

By the 1950s the legal maxim in custody battles was “the best interests of the child” which in practice seldom worked out that way. This did not alter the mythology of women as automatically the best bet for custody regardless of the evidence or circumstances. For decades an almost subconscious aversion to awarding rights to the father developed in the minds of many judges as a matter of principle. Furthermore, large economic shifts in the 1960s, ‘70s, ‘80s, and ‘90s and throughout the chaos of the 2000’s have clearly placed men in general at a disadvantage regarding accessibility rights during and after divorce proceedings.

Large scale fragmentation of the family unit has unequivocally taken place due to the many factors already discussed in this series so far, most obviously due to globalisation as a euphemism of international corporatism and its doctrine of ever greater centralised consumption devoid of social and ecological values. As a consequence, the resulting economic disparity between men and women – while taking account of the many exceptions to the rule – has placed the onus on men to uphold an impossible and singular financial standard usually on a single income and in a highly volatile and shifting global economic market place. Technology and automation is overseeing the demise of traditional work connected to the land. The 9-5 working day with the feminist agenda for gender equality will offer needed rights to mothers but also exacerbate another problem.

A painful and recurring irony has arrived that indicates the divide and rule scenario in operation so favoured of think tanks, the Empire’s intellectual vanguard of change. The dichotomy of men and women’s rights is increasingly reversed in the affluent Western world. Where financial solvency was praised as vital for the support of the family it is now seen as an impediment to proper family cohesion and parenting. Another bizarre twist has taken place. While many women have played the game of “success” under the push for illusory equal rights and juggled the family life with a corporate career; headed companies and donned the mask of the capitalist entrepreneur or boss,  in many cases women are repeating the exact same reasons that men lost their custody battles: by being distant from the family and not participating in “quality parenting.” Now that women have got what men had in the corporate world they too are being penalised for precisely the same reasons. [5]

While some men stay at home and care for the children the gender stereotypes remain. Men are not “house-husbands” they are shirking their manly responsibilities or just “unemployed”. Yet women who work still retain both roles and then complain when it becomes too demanding. The net result is a constant dichotomy that flips between genders creating and perpetuating multiple levels of tension.

In custody cases successful career women have to justify their work role by not assuming the traditional role of mother love. Whereas men the “hunter-gatherers” are forced to justify why they cannot support their family financially and are thereby somehow deficient of masculine genes. This is not a gender issue and never has been. What this represents – as in so many of the issues we have addressed so far – is an issue of reductive economics and the international financial architecture that has been built on exploitation of such depth and profundity that it is little wonder that it has ultimately defined who we are. Behind this wholly exploitative framework is the psychopathic mind that delights in such obfuscation and confusion. These anti-human ways of being allow it to be hidden from scrutiny. It is a shocking indictment of our society that the key benefactor of this descent will continue to be the wealthy Elite.

It is obvious that such a state of affairs does not just happen but results from an integration of Christian ethics with the organisation of Roman legal systems which were progressively adapted into our Western institutions. The human cruelties, indifferences and inconsistencies were also incorporated and laid the groundwork from one Pathocratic Empire to another. Łobaczewski talked about this “Western civilization” and how its degeneration was due to a “serious deficiency” in recognising the signs of decay which inevitably led to evil consequences. This was  due to the simplistic appraisal of human psychology upon which the societal structures of law, justice and philosophy were based. The insufficient resistance to evil was easily taken advantage of due to the “enormous gap between formal or legal thought and psychological reality.” [6] And so it is. We are still sourcing our knowledge and understanding from a juvenile dictionary and total lack of comprehension which has locked in economics, law, justice and just about every other domain in society. Is it any wonder that we are experiencing serious cognitive dissonance concerning the nature and direction our societies are taking?

It is the knowledge that we have an inherited the workings of societies “insufficiently resistant to evil” that can inform our future thoughts and actions on this issue. It will require that we become cognizant of how ponerogenesis plays out in our own lives and how we can best avoid its traps. Learning to see how we can understand this process will mean whether or not we become the scapegoats of this degeneration or the pioneers of its eventual dissolution.

Is gender equality a possibility? It depends on society’s current enforced assumptions about our roles. Equal opportunities cannot be approached when the very fundamentals of our socio-economic systems are skewed. Equal opportunities to be treated civilly and with respect cover both genders. Unfortunately, much as feminists would rail at the statement: men and women ARE fundamentally different – physiologically, neurologically and how we process reality – as a thousand studies have underscored time and again. So, while our conception of gender roles have indeed been enforced and expected, there are natural even timeless differences of masculine and feminine which only truly work when they meet in the middle to create that third force. It is the integration of the dualities while retaining differences which alter reality for the better rather than seeking to displace, out-do or gain ascendency over the other, or even worse to claim “rights” as though women in the Western world are somehow separate from the inculcated pathology of which we are ALL apart.

The inherent assumptions of those in positions of power which mean that women are seen as objects and where they are not deemed worthy of attaining the CEO position does happen. Similarly, men can be ridiculed for being stay-at-home dads or a job as a nurse. The problem is, within these positions are also wider implications denoting much more than mere ignorance or bigotry. It may be that the kind of roles that moderate feminists wish to see cannot be observed in the type of social reality we have right now, for the reasons so far given in this series.

Does that mean we don’t press for change? Or course not, but until we see that such urging of women’s rights without due awareness of ponerology which has our Western societies comprehensively in its palm means that much of the core reasons for seeking gender equality will be as authentic as Live Aid.  This is a problem not of female rights against male rights. It is a HUMAN RIGHTS issue against the PSYCHOPATH. All else derives from this. One talks of gender equality immediately assuming that men are not expressing the exact same victimhood. And this where so often white, middle-class, Western female entitlement arrives in much the same way as Jewish ethnocentrism and the reflex assumption from African-Americans that slavery by white traders of the past still demand recompense.

Until we embrace the fact that we are ALL victims of a centuries old evil that resides both in concrete reality and the metaphysics of myths and imagination within our own hearts we will never be free. We must take a grand, bird’s eye view of humanity which has in the modern era all the tools necessary to forge a new awareness of the multitude of horrors we have collectively suffered over lifetimes. That means truly joining together against a common foe and defending ourselves against it. Not by wasting energy on gender issues and spectres of the past. The only thing that will change these issues is SEEING who is stirring the pot of constant division and conflict. That does not mean doing nothing but it does imply that we choose our battle very, VERY wisely.

The Sex Establishment I

By M.K. Styllinski

“There can be no keener revelation of a society’s soul than the way in which it treats its children.”

 – Nelson Mandela
 .

Before we get into the Anglo-American Establishment predilection for abuse, which looms over our societies like a particularly large shadow we need to go back for a more general look at sexual abuse as a whole focusing on the UK and the United States.  The links between social and economic deprivation, crime and the incidences of abuse are clear. If the data is even close to being true, then the effects of sexual abuse on children have ramifications for societies as a whole. Bear with me while a few more statistics descend…

One North American study from five years ago once again confirmed sexual assaults on children were committed by relatives at 47 percent; 49 percent by acquaintances, such as a teacher, a coach or a neighbour; and only 4 percent by strangers. 20 percent of sexually exploited children who were interviewed were involved in prostitution rings that worked across state lines. [1] This underlines the statistical reality that another study found, in that most prostitutes on the street were sexually abused as children.

59 percent of incarcerated women in maximum-security prisons were sexually abused in childhood and 80 percent of women in prison and jails have been victims of sexual and/or physical abuse. A report on convicted killers shows that 83.8 percent suffered severe physical and emotional abuse 32 percent were sexually abused as children. 75 percent of juvenile girls identified as delinquent by the courts have been sexually abused. [2]

According to one UK survey conducted by the Great Ormand Street Hospital, one in eight boys who were sexually abused grew up to be a paedophile. “The research, published today in The Lancet, showed that 26 of the 224 former victims studied went on to commit sex offences, nearly all of which involved children.” [3] It was also significant that if the child had been abused by a woman, his mother for example, as well as suffering from neglect and violence, the likelihood of becoming an abuser tripled the probability.

That said, it is far from proven that some paedophiles and child molesters automatically come from generational abuse. Many counsellors and psychologists note in their experience it is not necessarily true that cases suggest the abused will carry on the pattern of abuse. It may depend entirely on the intrinsic qualities of the victim involved. It will surely come as no surprise to many that sexual victimisation “may profoundly interfere with and alter the development of attitudes toward self, sexuality, and trusting relationships during the critical early years of development” with a propensity for victims to seek an escape through substance abuse. [4] Abuse or neglected children are 67 times more likely to be arrested between ages 9-12 then those who aren’t and are more than twice as likely to run away from home as non-abused children. [5]

If we it were true that the highest statistics are incorrect, the lowest estimates of child abuse are still far too high. From a 1988 study a “typical” child sex offender molests an average of 117 children, most of whom do not report the offense. [6] Another study concluded the average child molester abuses between 50 and 150 children before he is arrested the first time, and an average of 360-380 children in his/her lifetime. Broken down, convicted child molesters who abuse girls have an average of 52 victims each. Men who molest boys have an average of 150 victims. [7]

From another report only 232 child molesters were studied using methods which guaranteed confidentiality and thus provided a reduced margin of error where the interviewees were free to talk as they wished, offering much needed data. The results included 55,000 attempts at child molestation, with a total 17,000 victims. Other research included interviews from 561 offenders including other sexual offences who admitted to over 291,000 offences and over 195,000 victims.

According to psychologist Anne Salter’s research comprising in-depth interviews with hundreds of sex offenders, she came across a wide number of victims ranging from an average of 10 to 1,250. As Salter mentions, conceiving such figure it difficult but she allows us to imagine it rather aptly by describing it in the following way: “…consider that the Louisiana Superdome, site of five Super Bowls has a maximum seating capacity of 72,675. If all the victims of those 561 men wanted to meet, they would have filled two and one-half Superdomes. Despite the astounding figures most of these offences had never been detected.” [8]

Statistics can be erroneous but what appears as a consistent correlation both in quantitative and qualitative data, as well as the simple logic that wraps around these field of sexual abuse, is that we will not hear about abuse that is taking place, let alone see the offences reaching a courtroom.

One study in an increasing number from The Children’s Hospital Medical Centre of Cincinnati, shows that allegations made by child victims match closely with confessions of paedophiles. The study, presented to the Paediatric Academic Societies and American Academy of Paediatrics at a joint meeting in May 2000, also showed that genital exams are most often normal in victims of sexual abuse, even when genital penetration is admitted to. Physical examinations tended to be unreliable indicators of abuse. According to the authors, emphasis on listening to children became all the more important, something that was seriously lacking in the past.

Reviewing the records of 31 paedophiles who confessed between 1994 and 1999, the researchers had access to the case files: “…which contained all available victim, witness and perpetrator statements, and pertinent victim medical records. They analysed each case for admissions or denials of specific sexual acts. They also analysed victim medical histories, examinations and reports from criminal investigators for specific histories of sexual assault and exam findings.” [9] What was more disturbing was the fact that the total acts of sexual abuse exceeded the above quota. Researchers discovered: “The 31 perpetrators confessed to a total of 101 acts of sexual abuse, some of which they committed multiple times. The perpetrators abused 47 children. 45 of the children were old enough to provide a history described 111 acts of sexual abuse.” [10]

Research discoveries by Dr. Gene Abel of the Behavioural Medicine Institute in Atlanta do not bode well for the effects generated by the male abuser in society. The research confirmed the possibility of a generational time-bomb of damaged children and potential abusers:

  • Boy victims of sex crimes are at high risk to become sexually attracted to children and to become child sexual abusers.
  • Men who have sex with children are nearly always committing additional sex crimes.
  • Men who have sex with children usually start that behaviour before they are 18 years old.
  • Men who have sex with children usually have 3 victims before they are 18 years old.
  • Men who have sex with their own children may also be having sex with other children in the community. [11]

Child abuse is not some external infection that arises out of nowhere. There are economic, social and psychological factors that guide its manifestation. Then there is psychopathy which drops like a heavy stone into the already fragile framework of social interactions. The nature of these individuals and the severe trauma they imprint on a child, a family and the psychic infection that will no doubt be left behind is the closest we can get to a clinical description of evil. For example, when 9-year-old Jessica Lunsford was raped, bound with speaker wire, wrapped up in garbage bags, and put into a hole in the ground before being buried alive by her kidnapper we can safely say that the manifestation of the sadistic child rapist is a consequence of this genetically hard-wired “human” pre-disposed to acts of evil. [12]

Yet, they come from within the heart of what we call Western “civilised society.”

1b

I do not mean to suggest that we are living in a sea of pathology as a natural consequence of our essential nature. Quite the opposite. You might say we allowed the door marked “psychopathy” to be left wide open so that the evil they produce could spread like wild fire and in often highly deceptive ways. As a result, psychological disorders are now common place.

Perhaps it is not that conscienceless persons are made by society but they are allowed to manifest as a natural consequence of a system that progressively mirrors their nature. It is rather like sparks that ignite the tinder box; once the fire has ignited and the initial flame is hot enough it will continue to consume whatever stands in its way. Similarly, primary psychopaths need not be on every street corner. Their effects are quadrupled by having systems that are made for them to manipulate with impunity. Justice and law, education and government are products of this mind that go deep into the clinical mind of psychopathology and psychopathy. We can understand them in isolation but without an understanding of ponerology we succeed only in giving systematic sexual and physical abuse the fire it needs to continue unabated. Thus the following examples are merely “nodal points” for expanding a network of like minds that flourish given the correct circumstances.

  • For instance, a 25 year old white single male who “pleaded guilty to charges of kidnapping, sodomy, and assault with a dangerous weapon.” The charges stemmed from an incident in which he lured a 12 year old boy into his car, drove to a deserted quarry, stabbed the boy, and then sodomized him after enlarging his anus with another knife wound.” The boy miraculously survived.
  • Or the married man who pleaded guilty to the sexual assault of his 3 month daughter. He denied the charges but “his wife had witnessed him with his penis in the baby’s mouth on four occasions. When semen was found in the baby’s mouth by a visiting relative, Child Protective services were notified and the infant was placed in a foster home.”
  • A 40 year old man was convicted of sexually assaulting his 11 year old son. This man was a college graduate, a superb athlete with an exemplary military history and a successful businessman: He also had no prior criminal history. “He became jealous of [his wife as she worked nights and] of the men she worked with and he began to experience some problems with impotency. Cory also quarreled with his wife because of her friendship with a neighbor, whom he claims was lesbian. … He says he claimed he planned his sexual offense against his son, Bud as a means of forcing his wife to give up work.”
  • The successful businessman who lured children to his home proffered cannabis and porn before sexually abusing the boys. His true psychopathic nature was on show when he was waiting to be shown from his security cell after being remanded in custody where: “security staff spent time trying to unlock a door to the cells, [he] stood and glared at the family members. He claimed the abuse was to ‘pleasure the boys, not himself’ and described what he did as an ‘art.’” [13]
  • The 35 year old truck driver from Suffolk, England “who was charged with first degree sodomy in conjunction with the alleged sexual abuse of his four-year-old daughter.” The abuse was thought to have been going on since the child was had been three months old some of which included “oral sodomy, photography and video taping of the victim and defendant engaged in sexual activity.[14]
  • Another perceived “pillar of the community” was 68-year-old Dr. Morgan Francis Fahey an international expert in trauma medicine and with a history of selfless volunteer work and public and community service. In fact, the Doctor had become a well-known and much loved celebrity. There was one problem with this well-crafted image: it was a deception. Less than a week out for the local elections on June 1 2000 the doctor was jailed for rape, sexual violation and indecent assault. He pleaded guilty to 13 charges of sexually abusing 11 female patients over 30 years. One of the charges included raping a “seven-month pregnant patient on his exam table, using a vibrator on another and fondling the breasts of a prospective Ansett NZ flight attendant during medical examination.”
  • Fahey, known as “fingers” within the airline:  “… received four years for the rape charge, two more years on sexual violation count, One year jail on using a vibrator and six months jail on three charges involving Ansett flight attendants (served concurrently) […] Disgraced Fahey appeared in the media again in November 2001, when a cell search uncovered medical notes from former patients, cash and pornography. […] leading Prime Minister Helen Clark to ask the Queen to strip his OBE that was received in 1977 for services to the community.” [15]
  • 47-year old “Paul Whitmore” was at the higher end of the abuse scale for acts committed against multiple victims of all of whom were children. These included committing a lewd act on a child, aggravated sexual assault on a child, using a minor to pose for sexually exploitative pictures for commercial purposes, as well as special allegations of bondage, sodomy, sexual penetration and oral copulation.  With evidence shown to the jury that was “graphic, shocking and overwhelming,” and which included: “One of Whitmore’s photos show[ing] a tied-up 9-year-old drinking water out of a cat bowl”  it is hardly surprising that this man showed no remorse other than the fact that he had been caught. This particular psychopath had created a pornography ring whereby he induced others to molest children, grooming them into a “circle of hell,” where the children had photos of themselves being molested posted on the internet by Whitmore. In this case, child pornography was the perfect outlet to both fuel his desires and as a source of income.

From the isolated paedophile/child molester, the propensity for networks of child pornography and child abuse is real and present as we shall discover in later posts. Notice too, that the instances of abusers as “pillars of the community” such as Mr. Fahey is high. Positions of power are the magnets by which serial abusing can take place, relying on status and perceived philanthropy and service as the perfect cover. (witness the Catholic Church after all). The presence of high society within systemic and organised abuse is more than coincidental but often glimpsed through what might be called low-level sociopaths and psychopaths acting as scouts and handlers.

Throughout the 1990’s and early 2000’s child abuse and child rape networks were front page news until around 2007 where reports seemed to die down once again. It was not until 2010-2012 that more stories began to show up with more frequency revealing that the so called investigations and official inquires had not made any lasting gains into the core networks which lay within the Establishment.

In 2011, The Boston Globe and Yahoo! News reported that child pornography accusations within the Pentagon and DARPA itself had not been investigated due to an apparent lack of resources. When Congress and civic lobbying groups forced a “revisit” of over 5,200 names and the subsequent identification of employees and staffers, only 70 of these were investigated at the close of the year. [16]

High level reports of abuse continued to surface though whether these were genuine cases or fabrications remains unclear. South Florida’s former chief of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent Anthony V. Mangione, pleaded guilty to charges accusing Mangione of transporting and receiving images of minors “engaging in sexually explicit conduct.” What is bizarre about this case is that the ICE investigates migrant smuggling, illegal weapons exports, terrorism and drug trafficking and child pornography. Mangione himself spoke out against “predators” who shared images via computer networks and was known for praising the agency’s efforts in tackling online child porn. An embedded predator himself or was he set up? [17]

Then we have the continuing allegations of an “epidemic” of child sex abuse in Hollywood making the headlines throughout 2011 with former child star Corey Feldman adding credence to the evidence against those charged when he stated: “I can tell you that the No. 1 problem in Hollywood was and is and always will be pedophilia,” … “That’s the biggest problem for children in this industry… It’s the big secret.” [18]

Then there were the more recent cases of Mr. Jerry Sandusky in the US and Jimmy Savile in the UK.

Loners?  Or nodes to something deeper?

Those techniques, along with an option of medical intervention for the most dangerous and both a strong relapse prevention component and a surveillance component, proved 96per cent effective in stopping subsequent sex crimes.

The Psychopath: A Different Species? IV

“The ultimate cause of evil lies in the interaction of two human factors: 1) normal human ignorance and weakness and 2) the existence and action of a statistically small (4-8% of the general population) but extremely active group of psychologically deviant individuals. The ignorance of the existence of such psychological differences is the first criterion of ponerogenesis. That is, such ignorance creates an opening whereby such individuals can act undetected.”

– ponerology.com

To reiterate: the main qualities that distinguish the psychopath from normal persons include the absence of a sense of guilt for antisocial actions; an inability to love authentically; a tendency to be verbose and talkative in a way that is inevitably subjective and self-referencing. Manipulative, insincere, confident, egocentric, cynical, quick to anger, dominating, sensation-seeking, vindictive, and aggressive and above all, wholly lacking any indications of empathy or fear. These are some of the common and wide ranging personality characteristics which conform to the conscienceless individual. Their sole preoccupation is to deceive with the accompanying charisma and magnetic charm that disable all but those who are not armed and ready with the requisite knowledge.

Yet, Those of conscience routinely underestimate the primal depths to which psychopathic individuals may plum.

Łobaczewski states:

… our social, psychological, and moral concepts, as well as our natural forms of reaction, are not adequate for every situation with which life confronts us. We generally wind up hurting someone if we act according to our natural concepts and reactive archetypes in situations which seem to be appropriate to our imaginings, although they are in fact essentially different.  As a rule, such different situations allowing para-appropriate reactions occur because some pathological factor difficult to understand has entered the picture. Thus, the practical value of our natural world view generally ends where psychopathology begins.

Familiarity with this common weakness of human nature and the normal person’s “naïveté” is part of the specific knowledge we find in many psychopathic individuals, as well some characteropaths. [1] [Emphasis mine]

The complexity of ponerology is deep, with variation upon variation creating rich hybrids of pathology that science has yet to just fully recognize, not least to counter. Their expert manipulations and “masks of sanity” are always one step ahead, whether at the heart of the family or the higher echelons of shadow executive governments. What is also problematic are the effects resulting from exposure to a psychopath or psychopathic grouping. “If someone has personally experienced such a nightmarish reality,” says Dr. Łobaczewski, “he considers people who have not progressed in understanding it within the same time frame to be simply presumptuous, sometimes even malicious.” “This experience,” he continues, “[is] unceremoniously rejected by … [people and] becomes a psychological burden for him, forcing him to live within a narrow circle of persons whose experiences have been similar.” When one has interacted with a psychopath and been lucky enough to escape it usually means you are changed for life. [2]

Once again, it bears repeating: the raw truth regarding psychopaths and their unqualified success stems from their absence of conscience. Their total inability to understand and experience empathy and higher emotional feeling, rather than an impediment, fuels their innate desire to consume, extract and deceive. The depths to which essential psychopaths will go to achieve this end is another reason why they can be so successful in corporations and the police or military where high levels of endurance and authoritarianism are required. It also explains why the results of their actions have such catastrophic effects: they will never give up on their selected objective … unless they meet another psychopath with a bigger pedigree.

If we understand that no treatment has ever been effective in curing the psychopath we may then begin to comprehend the pathological results of our society as listed above.

Quoting Łobaczewski :

Approximately 6 percent of the population constitute the active structure of the Pathocracy, which carries its own peculiar consciousness of its own goals. Twice as many people constitute a second group: those who have managed to warp their personalities to meet the demands of the new reality ….

This second group consists of individuals who are, on the average, weaker, more sickly, and less vital. The frequency of known mental diseases in this group is at twice the rate of the national average. We can thus assume that the genesis of their submissive attitude toward the regime, their greater susceptibility to pathological effects, and their skittish opportunism includes various relatively impalpable anomalies.…

The 6 percent group constitute the new nobility; the 12 percent group forms the new bourgeoisie, whose economic situation is the most advantageous. …Only 18 percent of the country’s population is thus in favor of the new system of government. [3]

Think again about the prevalence of schizoidal propaganda and how easily people project their own values and beliefs onto pathological material. Without sufficient discernment we can be bamboozled into believing the most outrageous lies. The average number of character disordered individuals may be as high as 20 percent of the population. That means that 80-90 percent of the population has the potential to awaken to the reality of macro-social manipulation. Factoring in recent discoveries of Severe Attachment Disorder, [4] autism and Asperger’s Syndrome which may also have in some cases psychopathic symptoms, the overall figure of psychological deviants may be higher. We may also add a quota of the global population who have had their innate creativity and emotional sensibilities eroded from mass education and post-modern culture of apathy and nihilism along with the speculative umbrella of HAARP and ionospheric experiments of mass mind control. From an equally bizarre contribution and unexpected source we can further include the incidence of potential psychopathy or related subset through the condition of toxoplasmosis. This involves the presence of brain parasites altering the personalities of up to half the world’s population, thus making them more susceptible to manipulation and control. This includes the inclusion of data on suicides, schizophrenia and other mental illnesses. [5]

Many factors are undoubtedly at play.  That being so, any in-depth research on their effects are likely to bump up the percentage of pathologically compromised individuals to levels which exceed present estimates.

GTY_barack_obama_2_dm_130902_16x9_992Barack Obama – Schizoidal?

It is clear there is still much to learn regarding the true percentage of pathological deviations. It is also no coincidence that under any oppressive regime or form of covert/overt control “psychology is the first discipline to suffer from censorship and incursions on the part of an administrative body which starts claiming the last word as to what represents scientific truth.” [6] We saw this process only too well in downtown America where the Bush-Cheney administration was busy reordering and eliminating scientific thought that did not align with its own principles. This perception remains in place under Barack Obama and in some cases even expanded. Psychiatry with its history as a political tool against dissident oppression and its links to Big Pharma may be an exception to this rule. If it can be used as a way to give medical justification for imprisoning “terrorists” i.e. ordinary activists and citizens who disagree with the government – then it may form a crucial part of front line pathocratic rule.

The herd instinct is strong within humanity and is perhaps one of the most useful ways in which the Pathocracy and its cohorts shape the world towards its own ends. By subverting the networking principle of group consciousness to obliterate independent and creative thought, it becomes easy to erode the positive intuitions and instincts which could contain and isolate evil. Indeed, our lack of knowledge about its presence in politics means we work for it and sustain it, rather than calling it out. As Łobaczewski states: “Our zeal to control anyone harmful to ourselves or our group is so primal in its near-reflex necessity as to leave no doubt that it is also encoded at the instinctual level. Our instinct, however, does not differentiate between behavior motivated by simple human failure and behavior performed by individuals with pathological aberrations.” [7]

As we saw in our snapshots of Official Culture there are presently few opportunities for populations to cultivate the necessary discernment both in the psychological appreciation of their fellow man, the requisite internal observations and crucial environmental indicators. For instance, our ability to achieve silence and contemplation is negligible in the urban world. Our minds are seldom afforded the chance to step off the treadmill of sense-fixated production. Economic hardship is a result of an accumulation of wealth by the psychopathic few, or as cultural political scientist Michael Parenti explained:

We are told that wife-beating, child abuse, alcoholism, drug abuse, and other such pathologies know no class boundaries and are found at all income levels. This is true but misleading. The impression left is that these pathologies are randomly distributed across the social spectrum and are purely a matter of individual pathology. Actually, many of them are skewed heavily toward the low-income, the unemployed, and the dispossessed. As economic conditions worsen, so afflictions increase. Behind many of these statistics is the story of class, racial, sexual, and age oppressions that have long been among the legacies of our social order, oppressions that are seldom discussed in any depth by political leaders, news media, or educators. [8]

Our psychological survival and ability to live meaningful lives depends on our capacity to see these psychological differences in our local, daily life and adopt creative solutions to counter them. Yet, our culture is structured in a way that prevents any focus and attention toward the problems even while so many intuitively recognise and understand that: “in each society on earth contains a certain percentage of individuals, a relatively small but active minority, who cannot be considered normal.” The actions of this minority leave a disastrous psychic footprint upon the world. Our innate ability to retain subjectivity and to cling to comfortable reasons to deny this reality is reinforced by the very same ‘humanoids’.

Psychological ignorance is perhaps the greatest deficit within the field of human awareness, the knowledge of which remains the greatest threat to the minority of psychopaths’ intent on holding onto power. And like a rabbit in the headlights, we are habitually disabled when trying to operate on simplistic assumptions that all of us operate on similar humanistic principles, or as Łobaczewski mentions: when “… some unidentified psychopathological factor comes into play, the natural human world view ceases to be applicable.” [9] In other words, when human values are projected onto narcissists and psychopaths as a result of a standard barometer of a moral and ethical worldview, this is guaranteed to offer faulty judgments and reinforces the predator’s security. The original ideology or manifested group, business, or initiative – whatever it may be – can be imbued with the highest intentions though harbouring the pathogenic infection of its demise.

In Official Culture various domains such as agriculture, art, business and science had within them the initial seed of inclusive desire and group cooperation. Similarly, the peoples behind such ideas and those still adhering to the original principles may not be aware that the institution, government or agency has long been ponerised. After all, as  Łobaczewski observes: “The greater and truer the original ideology, the longer it may be capable of nourishing and disguising from human criticism that phenomenon which is the product of the specific degenerative process. In a great and valuable ideology, the danger for small minds is hidden; they can become the factors of such preliminary degeneration, which opens the door to invasion by pathological factors.” [10]

It is probable that the Pathocrats (those members of a Pathocracy in key positions of power) believe they must maintain their control on the populace by either keeping us all in survival mode, embroiled in wars or drowning in sensation in order to ensure their genetic traits are perpetuated. To continue and extend their species they must incorporate fail-safe plans that reduce the populations of normal people and the ability of the affluent middle classes to sharpen their awareness and think “outside of the box”. Nonetheless, being a minority and therefore vulnerable, the Pathocrats’ dominance will inevitably weaken as normal people strive and obtain a more balanced playing field. For the psychopaths in all walks of life this would be a catastrophe. For those at the top of the military-corporate complex this is the worst case scenario because: “… the biological, psychological, moral, and economic destruction of the majority of normal people becomes, for the Pathocrats, a ‘biological’ necessity.” [11] This may give us some idea as to the source of eugenics and depopulation theories which have made an unwelcome resurgence of late. [12]

The massive PR machine is now tasked with keeping us locked into a media-led “social proof” and societal programming that keeps crime and abuse from being discovered. It has grown into an impenetrable barrier of fear where the herd instinct for self-preservation wins over any moral or humanitarian imperative.

As psychologist Professor Robert B. Cialdini points out:

To discover why canned laughter is so effective, we first need to understand the nature of yet another potent weapon of influence: the principle of social proof. This principle states that we determine what is correct by finding out what other people think is correct.

The principle applies especially to the way we decide what constitutes correct behavior. We view a behavior as correct in a given situation to the degree that we see others performing it.

Whether the question is what to do with an empty popcorn box in a movie theater, how fast to drive on a certain stretch of highway, or how to eat the chicken at a dinner party, the actions of those around us will be important guides in defining the answer.

The tendency to see an action as appropriate when others are doing it works quite well normally. As a rule, we will make fewer mistakes by acting in accord with social evidence than by acting contrary to it. Usually, when a lot of people are doing something, it is the right thing to do. This feature of the principle of social proof is simultaneously its major strength and its major weakness. Like the other weapons of influence, it provides a convenient shortcut for determining the way to behave but, at the same time, makes one who uses the shortcut vulnerable to the attacks of profiteers who lie in wait along its path. [13]

The Pathocrats profit from this self-organised instinct and the carefully selected path they have set before us as the only way – their way. A win-win situation develops as we become inured to the widening distances between what is and what is assumed. This social proof is applied to all areas of academic and media discussions and is a mighty barrier against obtaining true knowledge on the issues of social engineering and control. In the same way, while we decry the erosion of freedoms and the cloak of censorship, we are all self-censoring for the State. “Egotistic thought-terrorization is accomplished by the society itself and its processes of conversive thinking. This obviates the need for censorship of the press, theater, or broadcasting, as a pathologically hypersensitive censor lives within the citizens themselves.” [14]

Did you get the implications of that?  Are we able to see this viral influence in ourselves?

And what of a whole society?

Psychologist Anna Salter’s research into criminal psychopathy is also instructive regarding the stages of deception. Using interviews with psychopaths in US prisons she was able to illustrate why so many of the staff had been seduced by these individuals, not necessarily sexually, but where some form of compromise took place through sometimes highly subtle manipulations. She gives the psychopath’s formula for sniffing out their prey that can not only be applied inside the prison walls, but in the world at large:

Selecting a Targetkey factor: Vulnerability. Weaknesses are ruthlessly exploited via information gathering that appears to be just polite and friendly conversation. In reality, it is the stalking process.

The Law of Reciprocity – key factor: A reliance on a reciprocal response to ostensibly innocent requests, where the psychopath has already obliged the person to respond in kind. Cultural norms tailored to conscience are perfect for the psychopath’s armoury of manipulation.

The Demand and the Leverkey factor: Bonding and the Establishment of a “personal relationship” where the victim feels in control. Many Secrets are known about the victim and thus the psychopath has all the aces. Then the demand, which can be something seemingly minor in nature. But in one inmate’s words: “He’s crossed the boundary right there.” Once the request has been met the demands escalate until dominance is achieved.

Apply this to the home, school, or the family and it may be easier to see why pathologically compromised individuals are so slippery to prosecute, not least to identify.  What is even more disturbing is they can be superficially so likeable. That is, until they have extracted what it is they want from you, and like any arch-vampire, they leave you a shell of your former self – child or adult.

It is through widening our field of awareness that we can give hope to the children that are abused and sacrificed on the altar of psychopathy that continues to be built in our name. We must liberate our psychological awareness to free ourselves from a prison that has been forcibly erected deep inside our psyche. As Dr. Anna Salter stated so plainly: “why does it take thirty years of research for the rest of us to understand phenomena that inmates [psychopaths] grasp intuitively? It seems clear who the real experts are.” [15]

The only thing that matches their love of country is the remarkable indifference they show toward the people who live in it. To their ears the anguished cries of the dispossessed sound like the peevish whines of malcontents. They denounce as “bleeding hearts” those of us who criticize existing conditions, who show some concern for our fellow citizens. But the dirty truth is that there exists a startling amount of hardship, abuse, affliction, illness, violence, and pathology in this country. The figures reveal a casualty list that runs into many millions.”

[12] With a convenient mix of Malthusian and Darwinian Theory laced with a touch of eugenics, they have produced a perfect tool for the Pathocracy to decrease the numbers of the global population. While most of the problems of the world have been created by psychopaths in order to service their own needs they now intend to effectively “take out the rubbish” in order to survive. They intend to exploit the earth and what is left of normal well into their own grandiose eternity. For further reading see: The Inherent Rascism of Population Control by Paul Jalsevac (2004).
[13] “The psychologists speculated that, for at least two reasons, a bystander to an emergency will be unlikely to help when there are a number of other bystanders present. The first reason is fairly straightforward. With several potential helpers around, the personal responsibility of each individual is reduced: ‘Perhaps someone else will give or call for aid, perhaps someone else already has.’ So with everyone thinking that someone else will help or has helped, no one does. The second reason is the more psychologically intriguing one; it is founded on the principle of social proof and involves the pluralistic ignorance effect Very often an emergency is not obviously an emergency. Is the man lying in the alley a heart-attack victim or a drunk sleeping one off? Is the commotion next door an assault requiring the police or an especially loud marital spat where intervention would be inappropriate and unwelcome? What is going on? In times of such uncertainty, the natural tendency is to look around at the actions of others for clues. We can learn from the way the other witnesses are reacting whether the event is or is not an emergency.” Quoted from Influence: Science and Practice by Robert B. Cialdini, Published by Longman, 2004.

The Psychopath: A Different Species? II

“Natural human reactions … strike the psychopath as strange, interesting, and even comical. They therefore observe us… They become experts in our weaknesses and sometimes effect heartless experiments.”

Andrew Lobaczewski, ‘Political Ponerology’

Are there neurophysiological signs which could indicate the presence of psychopathy?  Research into differences between the brain of a psychopath and a normal person is providing many insights into the behaviour of our predatory neighbours.

The British Journal of Psychiatry found that psychopaths “showed less activity in brain areas involved in assessing the emotion of facial expressions…” [1] with a high possibility that this psychological “disease” is the result of a dysfunction of the frontal cortex of the brain. In one study from Canada described by bio-medical scientist Renato M.E. Sabbatini, PhD, the results showed that there was significant:

…. Impair[ment] on all the ‘orbitofrontal- ventromedial tasks’ but not in the function of other areas of the frontal cortex. The similarities between psychopaths and patients with prefrontal cortex damage surfaced in several areas of the study. ‘Both the psychopath and the orbitofrontal or ventromedial frontal patient show an exaggerated preoccupation with sexual matters, acting in a promiscuous and impersonal maladaptive way,’ observed the researchers. ‘Both are remarkable for their lack of social and ethical judgment. Both neglect long-term consequences of their actions, choosing immediate gratification over careful planning.’ [2]

Brain dysfunction supports the evidence that they may look human but for all intents and purposes they act in ways that are anti-human. Or, as psychotherapist Amos A. Gunsburg describes it, they are “humanoids” mimicking those with conscience:

Mankind has spent centuries trying to make sense of these creatures as some form of human being. All in vain. Not only in vain, but at enormous on-going cost to our civilization. These creatures are not human beings gone wrong. They are a different species … dedicated to the murder of human values … as a prelude to the murder of human beings … e.g., the tactics used by Nazis, past and present.

They laugh at us. They say: “No one understands us. People can’t put themselves in the minds of men who act without a conscience. They try to understand, but they can’t.”

These creatures do not THINK human. They do not SPEAK human. They do not know what it is to BE human. We classify them as “humanoid.”

Yes, they have human form. If we manage to resist their onslaught long enough, we will eventually develop technical scanning equipment which will measure how different they are from human beings, despite their similarity of form. In the meantime, the quality of our lives … and often our very lives … depends on our recognizing these creatures for what they are, and taking steps to neutralize their attempts to destroy us. [3]

If you are thinking that the above is way too harsh – then you are not getting it. It is exactly this immediate projection of conscience onto effectively empty shells which allow entry and conquest of the soul.

It really is that profound.

It is also important to note that we must not adopt the same psychopathic traits in order to oust the “humanoids” in our midst. The only way we can reduce the effects of psychopathic actions is to build our awareness of the problem so that we set in motion a new social contract that would prevent psychopaths from assuming positions of responsibility and power. Prevention seems to be the key and that comes from a strong knowledge base. The lessons of history show us very clearly what we have repeatedly failed to do: prevent unhealthy conditions arising which attract and thereby foster pathological infection. Once taken root as an individual and collective “dance” between the predator and prey, there is usually only one conclusion – the dissolution of the organism, whether it be an individual, community or nation.

0© infrakshun

We know that psychopaths take special pleasure in cheating, deceiving, lying and manipulating. Indeed, it is this drive that informs much of the psychopath’s reason for engaging with his victim. Prolonging this dance saps the emotional energy from an individual or group leading to innumerable states of negative emotion vital to the game. The psychopath is then able to extract the maximum quotient of energy from the suffering which amounts to a massive endorphin rush. The bigger the potential for emotional drama the greater the “hit”, which means it’s also important to recognise the power of bio-chemicals in the “dance” between the normal person and the primary narcissist and psychopath. The greater the deception, the bigger the high.

One might say that psychopaths are addicted to extracting psycho-spiritual nutrients of those with conscience.

Dopamine is one such neurochemical that plays a part in all sexual activity. It is involved in the pleasurable high that is experienced during orgasm and activates the reward circuitry in the brain.  Just as the drug addict craves his drug of choice to release the dopamine rush, this operates in a similar way when we become attached, dependent or “addicted” to someone who gives us the same rush.

The neurochemical that is responsible for “love” bonding is oxytocin, which is released into the bloodstream during sex.  It is a fascinating bonding hormone associated with nurturing and affection. Present in women in higher quantities than men, this hormone is also linked to emotional and physical benefits which include the healing of wounds and the tranquilising effect that can help us in times of stress. Breast-feeding stimulates oxytocin production in both mother and child while the connection between milk production and oxytocin promotes the mother-baby bond. During sex the chemical is stimulated by the female hormone oestrogen and enhances its effect, whereas with men, the opposite is the case, where testosterone dampens down production. (This may explain why women want to cuddle up after sex and talk and men become drowsy and switch off). However, despite glowing reviews of the benefits of oxytocin, it is not a panacea.

Psychologist Shelley E. Taylor, PhD and her work on oxytocin shows that the hormone may also “enhance negative social cues.” Taylor found that “…oxytocin rises not only in women who are in good, affectionate relationships, but also in women who have distressed relationships. In the latter case … oxytocin may be signalling the need to seek other social contact.” In other words, it is not saying stay close to that person but stay close to someone, anyone as long as that oxytocin high is maintained. The Doctor gives some salutary advice on this point:  “It’s never a good idea to map a psychological profile onto a hormone; they don’t have psychological profiles.” [4]

Further research from Mount Sinai School of Medicine psychologist Jennifer Bartz, PhD and her colleagues had some interesting results when they exposed men and women with border line personality disorders who often had volatile relationships to a dose of oxytocin. Data showed decreased ability to work in a team and a parallel erosion of trust compared with a placebo.[5]Chemicals seem to have a dark side which can act as a potential trap in dysfunctional relationships.  Mental health is a key factor as to how those chemicals will augment or help to confuse the relationship in question. If one is a psychopath then this chemical reactions can be turbo-charged on the part of the “prey”.

Unsurprisingly, sociopaths/psychopaths and pathological narcissists seem unable to secrete the hormone in anything like the same amounts contributing to the reasons for zero empathy and high levels of manipulation that eventuate. [6] What does this say when a woman is stimulated to overflow with levels of dopamine and oxcytocin in a psychopathic partner who has a hyper-reactive dopamine reward system and a lack of oxcytocin? [7] Greater and greater need for sexual and emotional hits on the part of the psychopath while the victim is trapped to giving all by an illusion made in flesh. The vampire sucks the blood of his prey until there is nothing but an empty container; an intense biochemical bond that effectively “milks” the endocrine system of the victim and which has nothing to do with any authentic emotion but everything to do with a primal addiction. Hence the reason that so many women and men have difficulty in extricating themselves from the psychopath’s powerful sphere of influence.

It is not just the tenacious nature of the psychopath’s personality but a very real physiological pull sourced from an abnormally intense biochemical bond that clamours to be satisfied despite the abusive nature of the relationship. The pain and anxiety is however, partially ameliorated by the release of oxytocin ensuring that the victim is led down the deadly garden path for more. Frequent sex alongside a permanent state of anxiety and pressure keeps the victim trapped in a spider’s web of dependency that gradually destroys the life and soul of the individual. The psychopath begins dispensing pleasure and pain simultaneously, until that is, life becomes intolerable. Then the real fight begins for freedom, one that the psychopath sees as the disappearance of “food.”  This is how the psychopath bypasses logic and rationale by essentially making an addict out of his victim.

chemicalhuman© infrakshun

Official Culture is loaded towards the psychopath, making it even easier to succeed in their quest to trap. Despite the victim hating the predator in her life, he nevertheless remains an object of desire she is powerless to resist without considerable outside support. When pathological or dysfunctional expressions of sexuality become the norm this further encourages psychologically compromised individuals to take advantage and propagate such deformations. Where people so often go wrong is by confusing the psychopath with a normal human being and thus misunderstanding that this has nothing to do with your explanation of the facts and logic within a given situation. The psychopath will always find ways to move the goal posts and invent reality according to his desires. Truth means nothing. It is about maintaining the bio-chemical dance and the use of any and all methods to sustain it, until that person is a husk of her former self. When that happens he simply moves on to another source to feed on.  For these humanoids, there is no real distinction between a tree, a rock and a human – all are circulating objects in the psychopath’s heliocentric Universe existing as psycho-biochemical nutrition to feed his black hole of existence. Any semblance of introspection goes no further than a primal cunning of decision-making regarding how best he can quench that insatiable appetite to dominate and control.

Take one psychopath who was interviewed by Robert Hare’s team who was happy to share his thoughts on this point: “The first thing I do is I size you up. I look for an angle, an edge, figure out what you need and give it to you. Then it’s pay-back time, with interest. I tighten the screws.’ Another admitted that he never targeted attractive women – he was only interested in those who were insecure and lonely. He claimed he could smell a needy person ‘the way a pig smells truffles.’” [8]

The data at present suggests that kind, vulnerable and “giving” women are particularly targeted by these individuals, though it is more than conceivable that men can be equally targeted by the female version in the right setting. Because of his talents for mimicry and an almost psychic knowledge of the emotional profile of his prey, it is easy to insinuate himself into the lives of those naturally trusting. When caught manipulating the truth or blatantly lying, it matters little: “…they are seldom perplexed or embarrassed – they simply change their stories or attempt to rework the facts so that they appear to be consistent with the lie. The results are a series of contradictory statements and a thoroughly confused listener.” [9]  What makes matters far worse for the victim is that he has no remorse for his actions, with “… a stunning lack of concern for the devastating effects their actions have on others. Often they are completely forthright about the matter, calmly stating that they have no sense of guilt, [and] are not sorry for the pain and destruction they have caused [which] is associated with a remarkable ability to rationalize their behavior.” [10]

Since they see no flaws in sense of self, they see no reason to change. According to their own pathological egotism, they can do no wrong. And it is from this realisation that metaphysician, historian and author Laura Knight-Jadczyk makes this chilling set of speculations:

Anyone who has ever observed a cat playing with a mouse before killing and eating it has probably explained to themselves that the cat is just “entertained” by the antics of the mouse and is unable to conceive of the terror and pain being experienced by the mouse, and the cat, therefore, is innocent of any evil intent. The mouse dies, the cat is fed, and that is nature. Psychopaths don’t generally eat their victims.

Yes, in extreme cases the entire cat and mouse dynamic is carried out and cannibalism has a long history wherein it was assumed that certain powers of the victim could be assimilated by eating some particular part of them. But in ordinary life, psychopaths and narcissists don’t go all the way, so to say. This causes us to look at the cat and mouse scenarios again with different eyes. Now we ask: is it too simplistic to think that the innocent cat is merely entertained by the mouse running about and frantically trying to escape? Is there something more to this dynamic than meets the eye? Is there something more than being “entertained” by the antics of the mouse trying to flee? After all, in terms of evolution, why would such behavior be hard-wired into the cat? Is the mouse tastier because of the chemicals of fear that flood his little body? Is a mouse frozen with terror more of a “gourmet” meal?

This suggests that we ought to revisit our ideas about psychopaths with a slightly different perspective. One thing we do know is this: many people who experience interactions with psychopaths and narcissists report feeling “drained” and confused and often subsequently experience deteriorating health. Does this mean that part of the dynamic, part of the explanation for why psychopaths will pursue ‘love relationships’ and ‘friendships’ that ostensibly can result in no observable material gain, is because there is an actual energy consumption?

We do not know the answer to this question. We observe, we theorize, we speculate and hypothesize. But in the end, only the individual victim can determine what they have lost in the dynamic – and it is often far more than material goods. In a certain sense, it seems that psychopaths are soul eaters or ‘Psychophagic.’ [11]

And “soul-eaters” comes closest to the place which psychopaths have in our civilisation, and the social and cultural inheritance they have inspired. They are the progenitors of evil alluded to in so many ancient wisdom texts which intuitively grasped the meaning thought without the science of neuropsychology to back it up. If there is indeed a chemical and “energy” component to the interaction with psychopaths then the dimensions of their predatory dynamics may expand into areas we simply do not yet understand. Nevertheless, we must guard against their encroachments with the seriousness of a scientist dealing with an explosive device or a highly contagious disease.

Perhaps then we may understand how it is that humanity has gone so far down the road to chaos.

The following extract is from the book by clinical psychologist Martha Stout called The Sociopath Next Door. (Stout uses “sociopath” in place of psychopath). Her eloquent appraisal of the psychopath’s mind goes right to the heart of why we must educate ourselves and the consequences for society and its direction if we don’t:

Imagine – if you can – not having a conscience, none at all, no feelings of guilt or remorse no matter what you do, no limiting sense of concern for the well-being of strangers, friends, or even family members. Imagine no struggles with shame, not a single one in your whole life, no matter what kind of selfish, lazy, harmful, or immoral action you had taken. And pretend that the concept of responsibility is unknown to you, except as a burden others seem to accept without question, like gullible fools. Now add to this strange fantasy the ability to conceal from other people that your psychological makeup is radically different from theirs. Since everyone simply assumes that conscience is universal among human beings, hiding the fact that you are conscience-free is nearly effortless. You are not held back from any of your desires by guilt or shame, and you are never confronted by others for your cold-bloodedness. The ice water in your veins is so bizarre, so completely outside of their personal experience, that they seldom even guess at your condition.

In other words, you are completely free of internal restraints, and your unhampered liberty to do just as you please, with no pangs of conscience, is conveniently invisible to the world. You can do anything at all, and still your strange advantage over the majority of people, who are kept in line by their consciences will most likely remain undiscovered.,/span>

How will you live your life? What will you do with your huge and secret advantage, and with the corresponding handicap of other people (conscience)? The answer will depend largely on just what your desires happen to be, because people are not all the same. Even the profoundly unscrupulous are not all the same. Some people – whether they have a conscience or not – favor the ease of inertia, while others are filled with dreams and wild ambitions. Some human beings are brilliant and talented, some are dull-witted, and most, conscience or not, are somewhere in between. There are violent people and nonviolent ones, individuals who are motivated by blood lust and those who have no such appetites. […]

Provided you are not forcibly stopped, you can do anything at all. If you are born at the right time, with some access to family fortune, and you have a special talent for whipping up other people’s hatred and sense of deprivation, you can arrange to kill large numbers of unsuspecting people. With enough money, you can accomplish this from far away, and you can sit back safely and watch in satisfaction.  [Emphasis mine] [12]

Far from being the kind of criminal psychopaths who are the serial killers of celluloid, the real destroyers of civilisation are the garden variety humanoids you might find in everyday life. What Stout describes above is exactly what characterises most of the Establishment institutions of our day. High level psychopaths corral the public into perpetual wars, economic insanity and repetitive social policies devoid of imagination and creativity but replete with CoIntelpro programs appealing to all social classes and psychological profiles.  Power must be maintained for a minority and power for its own sake is the psychopath’s aphrodisiac.

When you have established a network of hierarchical systems over a considerable period of time, it is relatively easy to inculcate normal people towards a pathological perception of reality, thus giving more and more protection to a burgeoning psychopathic elite. Robert Hare makes this pertinent observation: “Try to imagine someone who seeks power for no reason other than to have power, or someone who deceives just to experience the delight of having done so. Or someone who tortures another person physically or emotionally for the enjoyment of watching them suffer. Imagine someone doing these things, and not losing a moment of sleep at night (zero remorse).” And most importantly: “… add to all this, the ability to conceal themselves from an extremely naive public”. [13]

We are like a herd of wildebeest being observed by crocodiles from the deep water, or a grazing herd of gazelles under the eyes of cheetahs crouching in the grass. The thrill of the chase (the act of deceiving) is just as thrilling to the essential psychopath as the final kill, whether literal or not. As psychologist Dr. Anna C. Salter mentions: “Deception is not just a by-product of deviant activities for the psychopath; often it is the main event.” [14]

There are many methods by which the psychopath quarries its prey just as there are variations of psychopaths and psychopathic tendencies. They are acutely aware that they are different to normal people and disturbingly enough: “… learn to recognize each other in a crowd as early as childhood… develop[ing] an awareness of the existence of other individuals similar to them.” [15] A narcissistic culture helps maintain the camouflage of psychopathy by erecting ego-fed barriers against anyone who has been duped or fooled by the psychopath. That is, people would rather go along with the manipulation and herd mentality rather than admit what they intuitively feel to be right. Moreover, a mass psychosis akin to the psychological impairment of “Stockholm syndrome” where the abused comes to love their abuser may well be in operation.

Our own collective self-importance is proving to be a boon in protecting evil. When built from a foundation of fear and insecurity cherished beliefs are wide open to being torn down at some point along the trajectory of pathocratic inculcation and are an essential part of the fall of Empires. Such an event can be extremely painful and can cause extreme cognitive dissonance in the victim when embroiled in the psychopath’s deadly games. This is why self-knowledge must replace ignorance on this issue, as much for a person’s potential to grow and expand their awareness as it is for society as a whole to get past beliefs which allow evil to continue undeterred.

There are also a number of secondary psychopaths that exhibit the same traits, though with modifications. These include being prone to stress, worry or guilt and the avoidance of pain. In other words: the obstruction of their formidable desires. They have vestigial conscience which is eclipsed by the lure of vicarious temptations the satisfaction of which forms the core reason for their lives. There are those who are governed by powerful sex drives and unpredictable rages where the endorphin rush leads them to risk-taking and any illicit or illegal indulgence. Others prey on the victims using charisma and charm with the ability to attract as if casting a spell. Lies and almost supernatural persuasion are an integral part of the psychopath’s emotional weaponry. They are often irresistible which is why so many women fall prey to their machinations. (Though there are also female psychopaths the data at the present time suggests the number is lower. However, this may be due to cultural camouflage and natural discourse of disbelief regarding the idea of female psychopathy as we shall see). [16]

As discussed, there are still those who posit that the psychopath can be cured or that it is the environment that is a defining factor in producing primary or essential psychopathy. Such approaches are not in alignment with the facts however, and play right into their hands. Most psychopaths would gladly support such an approach and greedily use new curative processes as a means to pull the wool over the eyes of their assigned psychologists that they “getting better” or have “miraculously changed.” The statistical truth shows a different story.  Scores of studies have repeated the same findings which show that the attempts to cure psychopaths merely gives them new and useful psychological information which they use to dupe their therapists and future victims. [17] The very notion of psychotherapy in this context could be erroneous from the outset as one journalist mentioned: “It is the conscience, and the related capacity for concern for others, that drives the serious scrutiny of one’s motives, which underlie one’s behaviour. Yet psychopaths lack conscience and concern by definition.” [18]

Faulty wiring in the brain and a suitable set of genetic indicators may denote a condition that is incurable because it is natural for that person. However, such  individuals may respond to medication whilst steps are taken to make sure that they live their lives away from positions of responsibility and influence.

To underestimate the depths to which the psychopath is prepared to go to achieve his or her aims is to assist the fulfilment of their primal desires. The emergence of psychopathy in any given culture has profound implications for the future psychological health. We have seen the effects of a critical mass of psychopaths who hijack centres of power to create a Pathocracy.  Such a process does not lend itself to simplistic appraisals. It may be sometime before we can truly understand the trajectory of evil and how it manages to maintain its freedom and impunity.

Robert Hare reiterates this point in the following extract:

It is true that the childhoods of some psychopaths were characterized by material and emotional deprivation and physical abuse, but for every adult psychopath from a troubled background there is another whose family life apparently was warm and nurturing, and whose siblings are normal, conscientious people with the ability to care deeply for others. Furthermore, most people who had horrible childhoods do not become psychopaths or callous killers. Illuminating as they may be in other areas of human development, the arguments that children subjected to abuse and violence become abusive and violent adults are of limited value here. There are deeper, more elusive explanations of why and how psychopathy emerges[19]

One thing we can say for sure, is that humanity is gradually waking up to the predator in our midst. And for that reason alone, the future has more possibilities and thus more hope.

So, where does the power of art come into Official Culture?

The answer is that it is bound by the same strictures as anything else and thus largely funnelled into the narcissist’s and psychopath’s perception of art –  a commodity of mediocrity. That does not mean to say that “art is dead” or that there are no beautiful and inspiring works  available (though it could be said that the notion of what constitutes art is now very, VERY broad indeed) only that the potential of art – to heal, communicate truth, to initiate change, to emancipate and to even act as a spiritual and emotional conduit – is generally absent from our daily lives.  Art could be so much more.

Creativity could be said to be the furnace in which the highest aspirations of human endeavour are forged. Without creativity life is stale, joyless and bland. By extension, art has come to represent something quite different in our “civilised” societies about which we are so proud.  This is best illustrated by art critics who seem to able to turn anything into a marketable cause whilst maintaining the veil of seeming profundity, even when there is an obvious lack of any merit, artistic or otherwise. For instance: “The photographs of Ulf Lundin are almost entirely devoid of visual interest … it is … their very mediocrity, their monotony, and their emptiness that attracts us.” [1] No offence to Lundin’s art but this critic believes that mediocrity is attractive and sustains us, even sets us free.

This is the point we have got to in much broader terms: the attraction to mediocrity and monotony. And this is distinctly different to highlighting a hidden beauty in the seemingly pedestrian. For some, this kind of abstraction is not a black narcissistic hole but an essential truth. Yet to say such things, is to be accused of being a philistine, where the nuances of the artist’s vision have yet to be appreciated. Perhaps this is true and the problem is simply one of art history and intellectual rigour?

What is artistic merit anyway? Is it just a subjective, personal acquisition that can never be pinned down?  Or does true art transcend entirely the whole concept of an individual artist hanging his photo or painting in a gallery and thus his own ego?

“Art is the lie that enables us to realize the truth.”

~ Pablo Picasso

We can go to a gallery and see the latest conceptual masterpiece from an acclaimed artist for whom the placing of a pile of washing on the floor or tea-cup on a table means an artistic statement. We might view it this way: If we are unwilling to see that this self-proclaimed “artist” is forcing us to do 90 percent of the intellectual effort in order to vindicate what is frequently a money-led consensus of intellectually-focused unoriginality, then no matter how well intentioned, we are buying into the gullibility that keeps the greasy wheels of market-led art inexorably turning. It seems to be a case of “art for art’s sake” rather than “art for life’s sake.”

Perhaps “Art” back through history had a different role rather than today’s reflection of viral self-importance?

In the ancient past, art was once the creative “glue” that gave meaning and a sense of the sacred to communities still living a harsh but closer existence to nature. Now, the disconnection from the natural world has left us devoid of meaning and psycho-spiritual knowledge; where the application of practical skills which were both an art and a function are lost in virtuality and urban chic.  The SMART human has largely embraced the march toward a post-modern, narcissistic assurance; the scientific dogma and shellac of New Age philosophies has further replaced the prospect of learning from genuine ancient wisdom which must be applied creatively to be truly understood.

The above may seem like a tree-hugging cliché, but there is truth to it. Don’t you get the feeling that art is simply regurgitating  reproductions of endless self-expressions for the market place? And digital technology has made this conveyor belt even quicker and more instantaneous.

“The aim of art is to represent not the outward appearance of things, but their inward significance.”

~ Aristotle

Nowadays, concepts of art often lie very much in the realm of the intellect where the viewer must do much of the work for the artist by imbuing it with meaning due to a paucity of talent and creativity. Is it merely a lack of education regarding the nature of art or has the practical relevance of art simply ceased to exist because it has … lost its soul?

“Police on Friday removed the corpse of a man believed to have hanged himself at least a year ago after builders and students at Budapest’s University of Arts had initially mistaken it for a modern sculpture.” [2]

Or, over to the dustmen in Frankfurt, Germany:

“… they were a mess that needed to be cleared from the streets of their spotless city. The yellow plastic sheets were swiftly scooped up, crushed and burned. But the diligence of the rubbish collectors was little consolation to the city’s prestigious art academy, which is now ruing the loss of an important work. Unknown to the binmen, the sheets were part of a city-wide exhibition of modern sculpture by Michael Beutler, a graduate of Frankfurt’s Städel art school. Thirty of the dustmen are now being sent to modern art classes to try to ensure that the same mistake never happens again.” [3]

Although this example is humorous it is also a tragic representation of a class and cultural schism. Perhaps we can see in the above just how de-linked and disassociated art has become from the values and meaning of everyday life. Again, what relevance does art have in the world today compared to its potential that lays waiting in the shadows, tied to our perceptions and the current materialist paradigm?

If human beings have a natural propensity for aesthetic behaviour or creative play [4] then there is a well spring of action that can be constructive and useful that naturally benefits the “organism” as a whole, rather than the strictly humanist, individualistic force of the past several hundred years. Without wishing to paint an overly romantic picture, it is true to say that many of the indigenous peoples of the world had a natural culture that was both creative and meaningful even while daily existence may have been often challenging. Craftsmanship was extraordinarily refined and intimately bound into the life of the tribe or community. In many ancient and indigenous cultures such as the Maoris, and the Eskimo tribes of the Inuit they confirm the Indian idea from ancient Sanskrit writings that there was no word for “art” precisely because the idea that artistic endeavour could be separated from life was non-sensical.

“Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up.”

~ Pablo Picasso

In over a thousand languages spoken in Africa there is also no word for art.  There are no separate words for “create” or “make” nor is there a separation between right action and daily activity that is by their nature, an expression of a “divine art.” “Participation” is often the essential prerequisite for artistic endeavour where every action means something; every dance, every pot and ear-ring and temple. In the Western alchemical tradition the real art was the transformation of base metals into gold, the rebirth of the self – the true artisan.

In the words of Alistair Shearer:

As an individual, the artist does not consider himself fundamentally different from or opposed to society at large; he is the limb of the body, a cell of the organism, acting as a single entity yet inextricably part of the indivisible and organic whole… Stable in this identity his role is to transmit those forms which preserve and continue the inherited structures and beliefs of his society; his brief is conservative not innovative, social as opposed to individual, educative rather than diverting. His concern is not to invent new forms, but to rekindle the vitality latent in the ancient ones. [5]

At the present time we have turned away from the signposts of the past and become consumers rather than participants. Wal-mart, Nike or the Universal symbol of the Tao – it’s all the same. From religious iconography to esoteric symbols and mandalas, all have been subsumed into the continuum of market pop re-made to suit the less than altruistic intentions and actions behind them. We can say that now in the information age of manipulation anyone can produce “art,” and the reality of this possibility is flooding the market-consciousness. Everyone can make music in their bedroom and engineer sounds and samples from past musicians to create copies of copies of copies. Musicians can now engineer and paste whole samples of another’s work into their own if they so wish. In fact, one need not study music at all. If we do not have the ability or will to learn an instrument technology gives you the freedom to do it all for you. All we need to do is engineer sound where the elemental nature of the piano, guitar and drum or any other crafted instrument is now a graphic in a programme suitably distanced and perfectly conceptualised with polished realism and digital satisfaction.

Similarly, we can make digitised pictures and create virtual worlds of beauty and grandeur even if they seem to lack the soul of organic influence. We can all divest ourselves of a thousand meanings and project them into the outer world, exorcise our demons and “self-express.” Now everyone can dance until the sun goes down on diversity and creation as it fast becomes a bland monotony where every sampled beat sounds the same; where the ecstasy of dance is cut off from sacred meaning and still ensconced in an urban environment of a cultural dystopia.

A harsh, simplistic indictment of art in the “21st century?

Perhaps it’s more about our perceptions which give rise to what we consider to be art. It is indeed true that we humans have produced astonishingly beautiful and awe-inspiring examples of artistic vision so often tied to religious and devotional ecstasy or some form of spiritual yearning. Yet, as with all human endeavour it depends entirely on how this sexual / creative impulse is filtered into the material world. For instance, psychopaths do not have a creative bone in their body. They are mimics and masters of lies. So when pathological constructs begin to dominate societies then we will inevitably see its reflection in art and the methods by which it is produced. The difficulty comes between distinguishing the line between the real messengers that impart truth and those that merely regurgitate dead forms. Each will have its effect on the consciousness of the observer.

“Life doesn’t imitate art, it imitates bad television.”

~Woody Allen

Indeed, art and post-modern intellectual escapism seems to offer a unique possibility for those with serious pathologies to mimic attempts at creativity and pass it off as art for the public. When the psychopath or pathological narcissist is cut off from emotion and the fact that s/he cannot truly share, the world of art delivers self-aggrandisement and instant “specialness”; a natural environment in which he can foster his aloofness: the lone and misunderstood artist forging new and original visions… If his “originality” pushes new barriers of sensation and shock he can subsume his psychological issues into a protective facade of superior intellect and convince himself that his disdain for natural human interests comes from an elevated vision. Such “Art” like many of its offshoots, becomes a substitute for life itself. All this is willingly catered for in the art world should the artist hit on a suitable vehicle for his “self-expression” and the market in which it is best suited.

In a pathological world slipping into SMART society’s version of a digitized art this new media lends itself to the common denominator of the times. A “community producing great art…does so, not by its ‘love of art’ but by its ‘love of life’.” [6] Therefore, if art has no intrinsic relation to our lives where an accessibility of concepts is absent as well as the functional and practical appliance of art that is life, then can a process of true creativity be born? If pathological currents dominating Western societies have no ability to truly create it is logical that they should supplant an authentic cultural diversity with fake ideas bereft of an emotional connection though heavy on intellectual visions which we are obligated to furnish – the Emperor’s clothes with a paintbrush and keyboard. Since a culture dominated by pathology will naturally determine the quality, accessibility and visibility of that creativity surely it is inevitable that those who function as their designated artists in such a culture will merely be reproducing what is deemed an acceptable expression of that pathology?

The above brief description of contemporary art is purposely a somewhat generalised critique on the impressions that inform so vast a field. The reader will hopefully understand the contextual point being made. Perhaps the task of societies today is to see that the richness of creative artistry can be disbursed across a collective network of individuals rather than being focused in any single person; where unchanging principles and fluid generational skills are oriented towards permanent truths that can also bring forth our individual and collective potential. Once art has ceased to be seen as a commodity to be seen in a gallery or critiqued by those who are “in the know” then perhaps some measure of artistry can begin to be seeded in us all and translates into society as living art-fully. Art can become an expression of the artistry within rather than merely a form of self-importance or therapy without.

From the Industrial Revolution art has devolved into something very different to what could tentatively said to be its original purpose: to activate self-knowledge at the deepest level, to offer a fusion of community and practical skills where beauty and functionality sit side by side, and this as a result of a process of creativity which is defined by love. The power and quality of that unsentimental love which is rises up through the act of creation will define how well it reaches into the observer, to the extent it stimulates many and varied relationships from that process. In this way art cannot be separated from anything that truly creates and which has the promise of binding relationships which can for example,  form communities of thought which are self-sustaining within the whole.

Art then is a living process with tangible results dependent on the creator’s quality of consciousness.

“Art is not what you see, but what you make others see.”

~ Edgar Degas

Perhaps only the re-enchantment of Western societies can re-define art as liberator and healer, messenger and enabler. As we shall see, the general state of art will give us a broad mirror to understand what is going inside the collective mind of humanity just like any other domain. From there we will be able to tell how well the creative, artistic impulse is contributing to the advancement of human potential or merely a lifeless product.

Take an honest look on that score. What do we see?

It means that there is a battle between what Irish artist Caoimhghin Ó Croidheáin calls a “socially conscious art” and market conformity which parrots what has gone before and what market fashion demands; closing the window on the opportunity for art to inform and engage in ways that go beyond cultural constraints. That is not to say that art must direct itself to any one form of communication only that it MUST be authentic ans sincere for it to truly called “art;” where the pain and/or joy of the inner world is fused with the corporeal.  When socially conscious art speaks to the collective conscience producing emotional sparks of connection – that is when we the pain and imagery truly binds us, and we realise just how interrelated we really are. This is when art lives through us by binding us together in co-linear efforts to actualise conscience, the very process and fruits of which make life itself a living work of art.

Erich Fromm had this to say about our predicament and those who feel that there is nothing “normal” at all in the current state of society:

“A person who has not been completely alienated, who has remained sensitive and able to feel, who has not lost the sense of dignity, who is not yet ‘for sale’, who can still suffer over the suffering of others, who has not acquired fully the having mode of existence – briefly, a person who has remained a person and not become a thing – cannot help feeling lonely, powerless, isolated in present-day society. He cannot help doubting himself and his own convictions, if not his sanity. He cannot help suffering, even though he can experience moments of joy and clarity that are absent in the life of his ‘normal’ contemporaries. Not rarely will he suffer from neurosis that results from the situation of a sane man living in an insane society, rather than that of the more conventional neurosis of a sick man trying to adapt himself to a sick society. In the process of going further in his analysis, i.e. of growing to greater independence and productivity, his neurotic symptoms will cure themselves.”

This sense of isolation and “insanity” when comparing ourselves to the normalised pathology in which we are all immersed is the first step in curing ourselves and gaining a centre of authenticity.  This healing is an ambitious project and remains an individual destiny, but the successes we have as we undertake to understand our emotional life will have powerful effects upon the whole. This is the awakening that lies before us and a tantalising first step in opening the door to our dormant creativity across all domains. Mediocrity and conformity will then be seen for what they are: the symptoms of a social illness reacting to the imposition of anti-human demands. It is then that Official Culture will crumble and its authority seen for what it is: an illusion propagated by a minority that live in a psychological abyss.

It will be our choice as to whether we decide to join them.

Pornucopia: The Cult of the Body I

crudenude By M.K. Styllinski

“Lying is the native language of porn stars because they can’t afford to tell you the truth. Not only would it ruin the fantasy for their fans but more importantly, it would ruin the amount of their paychecks.”

– Shelly Lubben, ex-top porn-star

Even though responsible cosmetic surgeons insist that their clients must be 18 to have surgery, many girls (who are now mature much more quickly) will be seen by the surgeon if accompanied by an adult such as a parent. It is the army of advertisers, television makeover shows, obsessive celebrities and film stars which create the demand for the booming global business of cosmetic surgery. [1]

A recent study found that by the age of 12, three-quarters of girls disliked something about their appearance and by 16, one in four were considering cosmetic surgery. [2] In the US, cosmetic surgery is another symptom of a growing number of insecure girls and women. Americans spent just under $12.5 billion on cosmetic procedures in 2004. [3] Some of the most popular treatments include liposuction, tummy tucks, breast enlargements, eyelid surgery, face lifts, lip implants, and rhinoplasty. Non-surgical cosmetic procedures are also rocketing with Botox and collagen fat injections, chemical peels, micro-dermabrasion, haylauronic acid and laser hair removal, all up by large percentages, hyaluronic acid being the most significant at a whopping 659 percent. [4] Or perhaps you want a: “… booty like J-Lo’s? With buttock-boosting surgery, it can be yours!” In nearly every US state plastic surgeons are being inundated with requests from patients to provide them gluteal implants, the latest rage among young and not so young, American women. [5] In 2004, the upward trend in popularity for cosmetic surgery continued to almost 11.9 million surgical cases. According to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) this represents a colossal 465 percent increase in the total number of cosmetic procedures.[6] Once again, the onus on women to change is represented by a total of 90 percent of all the surgery with men at only 8 percent. The most common procedures for age 18-and-under were: laser hair removal, chemical peel, microdermabrasion, rhinoplasty, and laser skin resurfacing.

The number of teens who choose to get plastic surgery is also on the rise. 335,000 people 18 years and younger had plastic surgery in 2003, up from about 306,000 in 2000. Although much of this includes procedures that could be considered necessary such as scarring, facial or body abnormalities, or where individuals suffer from severe psychological stress, equally appears to result from children’s distorted attitudes to their bodies. Consequently, the most common procedures teens choose include nose reshaping, ear reshaping, acne treatment, and breast reduction/enlargement.

In Scotland, UK, under the influence of ever more available pornography and glamour rags hundreds of teenagers have had National Health Service (NHS) funded cosmetic surgery, including breast enlargement, some of them in a desperate bid to escape being bullied at school. [7] While across the Atlantic, a rise in breast enlargements for teens in California stem mainly from peer pressure and the quest to find the perfect image for graduation. One surgeon commented on the latest influx of 16-18 year olds who regarded the surgery: “as having your hair done or getting a new watch.” [8] Or, as another surgeon expressed it, breasts are indeed a “fashion item.” And with prices for breast augmentation starting at just under $4,000 to $10,000 this is definitely a nouveau-riche teen market that ultimately plays havoc with girls’ transition to womanhood and their place in a male dominated world.

As in the US, Australia’s Gold Coast graduates are taking on jobs to fund their wish for bigger breasts or smaller noses.  Singapore’s recent boom in cosmetic surgery includes a surgical makeover package “the trendy new thing to do in a wealthy city-state, where girls as young as 15 have their features altered or enhanced.”[9] Or if you tire of the dangers of silicon perhaps you would like to grow your own breasts via stem cell research, currently the rage in Russia? [10] There appears to be no limit to the lengths to which our body sense is forced into new synthetic designs and no limit to the number of surgeons willing to line their pockets to do so.

As a major symptom of our narcissistic culture we are seeing a rising tide of body-centrism manifesting through the highly lucrative worlds of entertainment. Voyeurism is a standard mechanism of T.V. and cinema. Our desire for  “reality T.V.” and “true life” drama veers dangerously close to feeding off and “getting off” on the cruel and degenerate, the salacious and gratuitous, to which we are now all accustomed to believing is somehow “entertaining.” The task of entertaining (or entraining) the new generations of children has been taken on by what has been called the “pimp and whore” culture of the pop world, where role models appear to be celebrating the underbelly of human trafficking and prostitution that befall millions of girls and young women worldwide.

Pop icons such as Christina Aguilera, or Rhianna fresh from the factory line of “made-to-order-music” simulate endless videos of choreographed “orgies,” while scores of Beyoncé’s and Britney’s writhe around their male dancers creating “doggy-style” dance poses, pouting cynically while their managers and accountants salivate. They are curious ambassadors for a kind of soft porn consciousness for emerging teenagers. School girls think that this is worthy of their aspirations in order to be liked and loved adding to the burgeoning pressure to conform and perhaps even contributing to a rise in the early onset of puberty. [11]

X-factor, American Idol and Big brother reality shows are the mainstay of weekend television. Programmes such as Dutch reality TV show “Pimp my life” is a case in point and representative of an extreme but increasingly common trend. Tramps are plucked off the street, given a state of the high-life then sent out to get a job within a certain timescale. The cable Music channel MTV’s “Pimp my Ride” that showcases new talent all normalise and popularise the jargon of the underworld. This creates the idea that prostitution and exclusive sex are cool and hip. They become role models and legitimate aims of the young, tied as they are into fashion and entertainment that are so much a part of youth consciousness. When such images are partnered with multi-million dollar advertising campaigns the emptiness of this programming only reinforces insecurity and self-esteem problems. To be liked, one must be thin; to be accepted one must be wearing the latest Nike trainers; to be desired one must be, above all super-sexual. Too bad that these are purely tried and tested marketing ploys aimed at tapping the freshly rushing hormones of youth in order to provide maximum dividends for the old.

Sex, not least pornography, has settled easily into the mainstream flow. It is not a question of playing a puritanical card or being prudish concerning the nature of human sexuality, rather, the mainstreaming of the sex industry as a relatively marginal influence has come to occupy a strategic and central position in the development of international capitalism and sociocultural mores. We see the continuing “prostitution” meme manifesting in implicit and explicit terms. Entertainment is the residual leftover of this toxic economy in human misery.

With adulthood effectively being sold to kids of a younger and younger age, there is now a kind of caste snobbery in the classroom where children judge each other by their branding and their wealth. Teens now aspire to be twenty-something’s in a manner more desperate than even ten years ago. Look at glossy magazines and the almost pre-pubescent girls on many advertising campaigns appear to cater for the pederast within the fashion industry than the ordinary buyer.  You may also find it difficult to correctly age teenagers now as we walk in the high street. This has ramifications for sexual misdemeanours and alleged felonies when 14 year olds look 6 to 7 years older due to biological factors, peer pressure and the associated influences of the entertainment and media industry that demand their brand of “perfection.” The two influences may not be unconnected.

2013 MTV Video Music Awards - Show

The Miley Cyrus entertainment puppet who introduced the “twerking” phenomenon as another variant of simulated sex. An updating of the Madonna school of programming. And of course, this is merely another form of female emancipation? Or just the whore archetype projected as role model?

In the late 1990s up to 2003 Magazines such as “Nuts,” “Zoo,” “Bizarre,” “Loaded” “Guts” and many others were filling a marketable gap between soft and hard porn with accompanying stereotypical images, often positioned next to violence and death depicted from all four corners of the world. However, their appeal has waned, not perhaps due to their content, rather to the notion of accessibility: why buy a magazine when you can view it on your i-pad for free? If we remember the previous summary of neurology and visual imagery contouring certain neural fields, we can see that this could be considered an important factor in the distortion of developing emotions and the emerging world views of children, notwithstanding the chemical components of addiction and early stereotyping.

The connection between abuse and the drastic change in accessibility of porn and its gradual mainstreaming into prime-time viewing is not necessarily the cause but it can be seen as an underlying shift in perception whereby children are encouraged to step into the cross-hairs of a premature, precocious sexuality. The role models both in fashion and MTV-Pop lifestyle offer a mix of what one writer bluntly called: “The Empowered Whore Archetype,”[1] and a stick-thin drug-chic lauded in the fashion industry. And on other hand we have the gym-pumped male who wears eye-liner, the uniform of gelled-hair and tattoos while seeking to emulate the myths of Don Juan promiscuity to match the new low standards that girls are encouraged to aspire.

Veteran journalist and feminist Joan Bakewell expressed her disquiet on this issue in a recent article:

“So what is there to complain about? It is the availability – indeed, the marketing – of such raunchy videos to the young and impressionable that disturbs me. Something has shifted in our culture to bring sub-teens within the orbit of suggestive sexual activity. T-shirts with cheeky, even lewd slogans – jokes that only adults can understand – are designed and sold to the under-10s. Children can hunt on a multitude of television channels for something that looks vaguely adult and vaguely transgressive. Can it be good for them?”

Set against a narcissistic culture, increasing abuse and acceptance of what is essentially, a psychopathic world-view – the answer has to be no. As Bakewell eloquently states, she was certainly at the forefront of sexual liberation in the 1960s, yet while this cultural shift pushed the boundaries of adult sexuality it bears little resemblance to the level of sexual imagery which bombards children and young adults on a daily basis. This amounts to an induction of pathologies where “traditional values” (without the baggage of conservative or religious connotations) are seen as “quaint” or passé.

The transition of Miley Cyrus as actress and girl-next-door role model, to the pop star-whore archetype is a particularly graphic example of the music industry’s manipulation of soft porn sensibilities marketed to the younger generation. Whether Ms. Cyrus thinks she is striking a blow for feminism or simply believes that this is indeed a suitable marketing coup to rake in the dollars, is anybody’s guess. For such a transformation to take place her producer (or pimp)  has clearly taken advantage of the emerging womanhood of Cyrus and exploited it to its fullest extent. The music standing on its own merit seems lost in yet another new phenomena of “twerking.”

Sex and music have always been joined at the hip. This time however, the sophistication of technology, has made it highly accessible (not least, musical content and often occult imagery – but that’s another subject ) which means that the lowest common denominator of instinct and gratuity is assimilated into the highly impressionable and emotional minds of the young 24/7.  Official Culture demands it. With no role models available to mitigate this onslaught and fused with so many other subtle addictions tweens and teens are exposed to highly charged imagery flooding the fives senses. Not only is this way too early but it is gratuitous to the point of complete saturation.

Alongside all this sexual hoopla and no doubt following on from trail of gratuitous-porn-gore-violence-set-to-motown-music so beloved of film director Quentin Tarantino, we have the massive popularity of the US TV drama series Dexter currently cleaning up on ratings and book sales. It tells the story of a forensic scientist by day and psychopathic killer by night, hacking and bludgeoning his way through various unsavoury characters who “deserve to die” no doubt acting as an entertaining catharsis for the millions who tune in. Of course, the character is sexy, funny, ostensibly caring and intelligent. He could be anyone of us. Is it merely the same re-enactment of serial killer voyeurism, or is there now an acceptance of the psychopath as somehow human and honourable if he takes out the dregs of humanity? And what message does this send to kids unconsciously grappling with the very real effects of psychopathy in our culture at large?

This inverted super-hero rides on the back of a glut of vampire, demons and werewolf movies and books aimed at teens and young adults. Evil hasn’t become just an anti-hero but the hero or heroine to root for.  The “good and evil” duality has all but disappeared to be replaced with “evil vs. evil” along with all the seductive trappings of black leather, buxom babes and steely-jawed sensitive males. The film Underworld (2003) about a beautiful gun-toting vampire who falls in love with a werewolf has the promotional catchphrase: “Which side will you choose?” The choice has become like so many elections the world over a choice between “the lesser of two evils” which in fact, is no choice at all.

So many disenfranchised youth on the streets of American cities are not finding meaning and purpose in the standard representation of family life plagued by socio-economic factors as well as the inevitable psychological dislocation which results. Instead many children and young adults gravitate towards gang culture which provides meaning and emotional belonging. However, many gangs require initiation tests of brutal violence and sometimes murder. Indeed, gang violence is one of the most pressing problems in both the UK, the US and Latin America. It indicates a spiritual vacuum in our youths that goes to the heart of Official Culture. Mixed messages in the representation of sexuality, emotions and the incessant focus on self-image and celebrity shapes the developing minds and bodies of the young. In turn, this will have a direct influence on their notion of morality, ethics and how they eventually perceive the world and their place in it.

Viewing explicit sexual imagery literally charges the blood. It is a bio-chemical “opiate”. After all, these are the chemicals that flow through our bodies that create liaisons, affairs, unions and marriages. The latter rituals are naturally very often doomed to failure precisely because of this false chemical romance. A frequent, early exposure to such visual stimulation in the child may in some cases a desensitisation which means a greater threshold of stimulation is required causing the desire to seek out material of a harder or more extreme quality. Increasing stimulation can lead to addiction whether child or adult. The former however, is more vulnerable to the power of such images due to the level of emotional immaturity and hormonal influences. The net result is an atrophying of the finer emotions and the ability to love in deference to power of instinct.

Former porn actress Shelley Lubben is an expert on the reality of the multi-billion dollar business. She even wrote a book about it called The Truth about the Fantasy Behind Porn – The Greatest Illusion on Earth which shatters the myth of glamour and sexual liberation that the industry and their models try to promote. Lubben believes that the porn industry frequently destroys lives and she is someone that is in the position to know.  She states: “I used to brag endlessly to fans and pornographers about how I loved making porn movies. I lied 100 percent of the time to 100 percent of the people.” [2]

Lubben has carefully researched some interesting statistics about the world of porn that has become so normalised in the 21st Century. On her website and her book we learn that:

  • 36 porn stars died that we know of from HIV, suicide, homicide and drugs between 2007 and 2010.
  • 66percent of porn performers have Herpes, a non-curable disease.
  • 2,396 cases of Chlamydia and 1,389 cases of Gonorrhea reported among performers since 2004.
  • Over 100 straight and gay performers died from AIDS.
  • 26 cases of HIV reported by Adult Industry Medical Healthcare Foundation (AIM), since 2004.
  • 70percent of sexually transmitted infections in the porn industry occur in females according to County of Los Angeles Public Health.
  • Chlamydia and Gonorrhea among performers is 10x greater than that of LA County 20-24 year olds.
  • The largest group viewing online pornography is ages 12 to 17.
  • More than 11 million teens regularly view porn online.
  • There are 4.2 million pornographic websites, 420 million pornographic web pages, and 68 million daily search engine requests. [3]

A more lengthy extract from Lubben’s book is worth including here in case the reader is under any illusion at all as to the nature of the industry. Here, from the horse’s mouth:

Many believe the widespread fairy-tale that women enjoy making porn movies but the truth is there are no happy endings for the women of porn. Women do NOT enjoy making porn movies and a closer behind-the-scenes look will show you several reasons why.

In the world of hardcore sex, an average day on the set for a porn actress is a long and tedious process. Women are told to come in around 8 am for makeup but it’s only to make sure porn actresses arrive on time to work. Porn stars have a nasty habit of arriving late because they’re often hung over from drugs or alcohol from the night before.

After make-up, porn actresses usually wait around long hours until it’s their turn to do their scene. Some scenes take an hour and some take several hours to film. It really depends if the male actor in the first scene could “perform” or not. It also depends if female actresses have to stop the clock because they can’t handle the pain of a hardcore sex scene.

While waiting around, jaded porn performers usually end up in the rest rooms with bottles of alcohol and lines of speed or outside in their cars for a heroin fix or gathered in the back yard with other actors to smoke marijuana.

To add to the mind-numbing process, women are never able to experience sexual pleasure because of the continuous cutting during sex scenes. In the background the director constantly yells, “cut” and the flow of action is interrupted in order to get a better shot, adjust lighting or to wipe up bodily fluids. Repeatedly pornographers stop scenes and ask actors to “freeze” in position during very hardcore sex acts, which causes great physical and emotional pain for porn actresses.

I speak from personal experience when I say to be in the middle of a hardcore sex act with several actors at the same time and told to “freeze” in position for several minutes while lighting or cameras are adjusted is extremely painful and degrading. It’s also very humiliating when scenes are stopped in order to wipe up bodily fluids such as semen, feces and blood.

Despite the fact women do not enjoy making porn movies, they continue to lie to their fans and proudly insist they enjoy making porn movies. Of course they do. They get paid hundreds and thousands of dollars to lie because this is their occupation. Porn stars are paid professional liars who know how to “act” and they do it well. In fact, because porn stars spend a great deal time in front of the camera and never step out of character, they usually have greater acting abilities than mainstream Hollywood actors.

I used to brag endlessly to fans and pornographers about my extreme “Italian” sex drive and how I loved making porn movies. I would go on and on about how I needed more and more to fulfill my insatiable appetite. I lied 100 percent of the time to 100 percent of the people. Lying is the native language of porn stars because they can’t afford to tell you the truth. Not only would it ruin the fantasy for their fans but more importantly, it would ruin the amount of their paychecks. Don’t believe porn actresses when they proudly proclaim they enjoy making porn movies.

They’re ACTING.” [4]

The Rise of Narcissism and the Loss of Meaning III

“Addiction cannot be understood simply as an affliction of certain individuals with genetic or acquired predispositions to addiction in otherwise well-functioning societies. The most powerful risk factors for addiction are social and cultural rather than individual”

Prof. Bruce K. Alexander

Swiss psychologist Carl Gustav Jung saw “Every form of addiction [is] bad, no matter whether the narcotic be it alcohol, morphine or idealism.”

The word “addiction” for most people instantly conjures up the addled alcoholic or heroine user, perhaps the late night gambler or street-child glue-sniffer. There is certainly a case to be made that substance abuse is a major problem in the modern world. When worldwide sales of cocaine earn more than Microsoft, McDonald’s and Kellogg’s combined, then we know we have a major problem in our culture. [1] However, there is a flipside to a more covert form of addiction. A culture that sees only its own reflection will not only stagnate but will seek more and more sensation and distraction to claw back any sense of self. When you have a society bereft of meaning – any old substitute will do, however fake and illusory. If it serves the power brokers strategies for corporate or political compliance, then all the better. The philosopher John Ruskin once said that: “a man wrapped up in himself makes a very small parcel,” and the smaller the parcel the more difficult it is to unwrap.

Narcissism is closely aligned to addiction in all its forms. Both are self-absorbed and consider their own needs before anyone else. Both exhibit a failure of self-regulation [2] the substance abuser visiting greater and greater destructiveness upon his health and relationships and the narcissist, through his addiction to the admiration of others where unimpeachable façade actually repels healthy relationships and increases the intensity of craving.  Yet each will exercise self-regulation only insofar as it achieves their self-centred goals. Just as the drug addict feeds his need with crack, so too the narcissist uses people as props to feed his own façade, which unless pathological, phases in an out of intensity. Ultimately, flattery, admiration and attention are never enough and so they seek more and more, just like the substance abuser. If narcissism is a form of addiction and addiction is a form of narcissism, they are surely two sides of the same coin. This means that the definition of addiction is misplaced and encompasses a great deal more than we may realise.

Narcissism and addiction are such close bedfellows because we live in social systems which generally elevate a fake emotional currency as the only means of exchange thus our reality becomes increasingly defined by examples of addictive behaviour en masse. But as we shall discover as we go on, the nature of addiction is compartmentalised towards the obvious like class-A drugs, smoking, alcohol and gambling. What about other less socially acceptable forms?  We can be addicted to video-games, i-phones, anti-depressants, sex, pornography, a toxic relationship, exercise, shopping and many more which can slip under the radar of our conceptual models but nevertheless be found under the umbrella of serious addiction. Internet Addiction Disorder (IAD) is now officially listed in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM). A recent Newsweek article on web addiction underscores just how immersed we truly our in the addiction mentality, with particular attention to China, Taiwan and Korea who see IAD “as a grave national crisis.”

Journalist Tony Dokoupil, whom we cited in the last post, explains further:

In those countries, where tens of millions of people (and as much as 30 percent of teens) are considered Internet-addicted, mostly to gaming, virtual reality, and social media, the story is sensational front-page news. One young couple neglected its infant to death while nourishing a virtual baby online. A young man fatally bludgeoned his mother for suggesting he log off (and then used her credit card to rack up more hours). At least 10 ultra-Web users, serviced by one-click noodle delivery, have died of blood clots from sitting too long.

What about addiction to belief, ideology, power and control? Indeed, anything that restricts potential and creates negative effects but delivers the “hit” can surely be classed as an addiction. The “hit” may serve to self-calm against the harsh realities of life, to give meaning and security, even if those qualities are based on lies and falsehoods. They may offer significance to our sense of self where subconsciously we know that without such external props we are weak and ineffectual. We can be addicted to intellectual pursuits if they serve to bolster our ego whilst neglecting to heal our emotional self. Whenever our mind is locked in one direction, wholly identified with the object of our attention that we cannot see any other reality then a large proportion of what makes us human will begin to atrophy. Without intervention of some kind, all addiction creates a dynamic of diminishing returns and a spiral of extremes to complete the final descent. We begin to love our addictions as part of who we are until it takes over our very essence, using the external world and all its “toys” to supplant the hope of truth and meaning in our lives. Hence, narcissism and addiction become a one-way ticket to a spiritual death in the profoundest sense.

Psychiatrist David Brin agrees that the word “addiction” limits our perception of a wider realm or a “…general behavioural reinforcement within the human brain.” He observes that if neurochemical processes reinforce “good” habits such as loyalty, love, and joy in music, then addiction should be studied in a larger context. Mental addictions might cause as many problems in our societies as standard categories. He explains: “Self-righteousness and indignation may sometimes be as much about chemical need as valid concerns about unfair actions. Among other outcomes, this becomes more ‘pathologically altruistic’ behaviour.” [3]

In much the same way that pathology has become the “official culture” Bruce K. Alexander, Professor Emeritus, at the Simon Fraser University in Canada sees “a poverty of the spirit” that now characterises interpretations of addiction in general. He sees the word “addiction” as having undergone a: “kidnap[ing] in the 19th century by medical and moralistic interest groups, who gave it a new meaning. Their medical and moralistic approaches to defining and eliminating the problem of addiction failed abysmally. Despite obvious failure, their approaches have coalesced in recent decades as a doctrine which is, I submit, properly called the ‘Official View of Addiction.’” Alexander contends further that the: “…stultifying presence of the Official View stands in the way of a rigorous, scholarly examination of addiction. It therefore leaves the world subjected to a truly menacing addiction problem that has been rendered incomprehensible. I submit that, in cases like this, murder is a lesser evil than the continued existence of a pernicious Official View.” [4]

The professor holds that the use of the word “addiction” was: “… gradually medicalized, moralized, and oriented towards drugs, relative to its traditional usage” by academics and the religious moral rectitude that pervaded the educated classes of the time. It became associated with “… inebriation related to the excesses of the working classes.”  As we shall see “official culture” strengthened and sustained by psychopathic and narcissist worldviews incorporates a legion of “official” views.

According to Alexander’s studies six foundational elements comprise the official view pertaining to addiction, its sources and treatment, all of which have been thoroughly institutionalized as correct and authoritative:

1. Addiction is fundamentally a problem of drug or alcohol consumption.

2. “Addictive drugs” have the power to transform some or all of the people who use them into addicts, overcoming their normal will power.

3. A major portion of people’s vulnerability to addiction comes from inherited genetic predispositions

4. People who become addicted suffer from a chronic, relapsing brain disease, which is essential incurable.

5. Although people with the disease of addiction cannot be cured, they can be successfully managed through professional treatment or membership in self-help groups.

6. Addiction is an illness of deviant individuals within otherwise well-functioning societies. Scientific Faith: Commitment to objective science guarantees that the foundational elements of the Official View are correct and certain. Medical Promise:  Medical research will soon find an effective treatment for addiction, which will probably be pharmacological. [5]

Professor Alexander summarises his views in a recent paper derived from his 2008 book The Globalization of Addiction: A study in poverty of the Spirit where he disputes the above proving that there are six foundational elements and four postulates based on persistent assumptions and beliefs.

He states:

1. Addiction is not primarily a problem of alcohol and drugs. In fact, alcohol and drug addiction is only a corner of the vast, doleful tapestry of addiction. This contradicts the 1st foundational element. […]

2. The large majority of people who use “addictive drugs” do not lose their will power to resist these drugs, and do not become addicted. This contradicts the strong form of the 2nd foundational element. […]

3. There is no substantial evidence that the minority of drug users who do become addicted lose their will power, and strong reasons to think that they do not. This contradicts the weak form of the 2nd foundational element of the Official View. […]

4. Genetic research provides no substantial evidence of a genetic predisposition to addiction. This contradicts the 3rd foundational element of the Official View. […]

5. Natural recovery is the most likely outcome of addiction. This contradicts part of the 4th foundational element of the Official View. […]

6. Despite countless interventions carried out under the rubric of the Official View, the prevalence of addiction has continued to rise throughout the 20th century and into the 21st. This shows the futility of the 5th foundational element and of the Official View as a whole. […]

7. Addiction cannot be understood simply as an affliction of certain individuals with genetic or acquired predispositions to addiction in otherwise well-functioning societies. The most powerful risk factors for addiction are social and cultural rather than individual. This contradicts the 6th foundational element of the Official View. […]

8. The Official View has drawn its principles more from moralistic social movements than from scientific discoveries. This contradicts the claim that the Official View is based on dispassionate science and seriously undermines part of the 4th foundational element. […]

9. Contrary to the child abuse version of the Official View, childhood abuse is not a primary cause of the flood of addiction, although it is very important in some individual cases.

10. Contrary to the claims of its advocates, the most up-to-date form of the Official View is intrinsically moralistic and punitive, most obviously by providing justification for some of the violent excesses of the “War on Drugs”. [6]

These ten points shatter the illusions surrounding addiction offering proof that it is a far more complex, widespread and misunderstood phenomena than we have been led to believe. It seems convenient for the mass population to continue in such misapprehension, as it clearly serves to keep the machinery of finance and social care ticking over despite the massive financial cost to us all.

As stated previously, a vast panoply of addiction exists falling outside the current largely drug-based definitions incorporating all kinds of addictive practices such as shopping and sex. Voluminous data on the myths that addiction is terminal, is restricted to the working class and that prolonged use of class A drugs causes permanent addiction have also been published. Large-scale studies have also shown a high rate of natural recovery with more than half recovering before they are 30. [7] Alexander reinforces the reason for these well documented cases of natural recovery are not as mysterious as they may seem. When a natural recovery takes place stronger relations with the community occur and / or a new reason or meaning is found to continue life a different way.  He states: “Addicted people who do not recover on their own fill the treatment agencies and social service centres. A large number are refractory to treatment, creating the illusion of a chronic disease, which has been incorporated into the Official View to explain the marginal success of treatment regimens built on its doctrine.” [8]

Despite widespread intervention based on these official views, the levels of addiction have continued to rise based on the idea that all addiction is a chronic disease of the kind that cannot be permanently overcome. Is it no surprise that the multibillion pharmaceutical industry happily agrees with the above official view that there is: “… no way left to substantially reduce the prevalence of addiction, apart from the long-promised, but still-undelivered pharmacological cure.” But looking for that elusive cure is profitable nonetheless, while other forms of addiction fall by the wayside due to the dismissal of the proof that our societies are predicated on mass addiction of every kind, with acausal factors and non-traditional outcomes.

Even more interesting is the presentation of Alexander’s and others’ data that claims child abuse is not a primary factor in the onset of addiction:

Quantitative research reveals a strong relationship between childhood abuse and later addiction to alcohol and drugs, especially for women.… However, the relationship becomes very much smaller when abused children are compared with children from families that are equally distressed but did not abuse their children. In general, sustained family and community dysfunction are far more powerful predictors of addiction than traumatic child abuse alone.

Even the fact that an addicted person was physically or sexually abused as a child does not necessarily mean that the abuse was the cause of their addiction. Families of abused children typically have other severe problems in addition to child abuse. Several of these other problems, for example drug abuse by parents or spousal abuse, appear to predict later addictive problems as well, or better, than sexual or physical abuse of the child. ….

At the other end of the social spectrum, “From Grief to Action” is a group organized by well-off parents of drug addicts who were not abusive to their children and are horrified to discover that many people automatically assume that they must have been, in the context of dramatic presentations of the child abuse version of the Official View. … As an addiction specialist at a large university, I have worked with severely addicted youths who were children of non-abusive faculty families that were not dysfunctional in any ordinary sense of the term. [9]

The fact that child abuse does not necessarily mean addiction while a dysfunctional family becomes more probable in the manifestation of addiction in children and later adults confirms both the prevalence of a rising narcissism and the symbiosis between the two. It also explains the absence of class distinction in relation to this pathology.

Genetic factors do not explain addiction in itself, the evidence for social and cultural influences determining addiction rates is much stronger. This led to Alexander accounting for the failure of the official view and the true reasons for the presence of an endemic addiction in our Western societies via his “Dislocation Theory.” Built on the traditional definition of “addiction” rather than the medical/moral/drug definition, the theory: “… draws attention to social causes of addiction that can only be remedied through deep changes in the status quo.” [10] Which is precisely why and how these “official views “and “official culture” itself is maintained, because it keeps the status quo fixed in place, no matter what.

If logical, sensible and innovative alternatives seek a hearing they are hard pressed to penetrate the pathological constructs that now define societies. It is then that we must collectively begin to question, where does this narcissism, addiction and dislocation really come from?

Before we gradually answer that question let’s a have a look at the official culture in which we find ourselves and paint a picture of some of the commercial and institutional pathologies which are now taken as the normal part of our modern day existence in the West. Once we do this we will be in a better position to go deeper as this exploration progresses.

The Rise of Narcissism and the Loss of Meaning II

“As individuals and as a nation, we now suffer from social narcissism. The beloved Echo of our ancestors, the virgin America, has been abandoned. We have fallen in love with our own image, with images of our making, which turn out to be images of ourselves.”

– Daniel J. Boorstin

Individualism does not have to be selfish and uncooperative. On the contrary, individual integrity while communing with the whole is what being human is all about. Whereas conforming to a bland, homogenous consensus of selfish dictates that defines so much of economic and cultural discourse is one sure way to lose one’s conception of self. What society seems to be growing is an unhealthy and destructive self-obsession that is rapidly normalised as a symptom of a “dog-eat-dog” world. To “be someone” means that we have to play the game and it is a one that gradually brainwashes you into thinking that this is what you do – for the rest of your life: be one of the herd or be an outsider that attains “success.”  Yet, perhaps those two avenues are really just the same? What does it mean to groove oneself into a routine of 9-5, TV, weekend peace and family life with barely the time to think? What of that desire to have wealth, status and to be adored? The latter is directly mirroring the Establishment perception made up of corporate leaders, politicians, members of the monarchy and endless TV shows like X-factor and American Idol that tell us if you are not wealthy and do not have power and influence, you do not exist – you have no significance.

You must conform to the idea of success and love as defined by our culture. In effect, your we do not have the time, space or energy to truly shape our own identity outside the bubble of cultural dynamics within which we are immersed. Urban life and present technology is only reinforcing that largely unconscious existential crisis.

It is a tired cliché that success does not define individual integrity any more than integrity can define the type and quality of that success. To have personal integrity automatically places value on the type of success you wish to attract and pursue.  Which is perhaps why, despite the obvious material advances for many, we are not getting happier. This is especially true for young women. As we get more unhappy, yet more affluent the unhappiness becomes a form of aggressive entitlement for material acquisition, status and the ease and comfort this provides. No one wants to be a pauper either but there appears to be a serious displacement of core needs lying deep within societies; a spiritual yearning that is not only being ignored but actively subverted.

In 1999 a comprehensive study was carried out in the UK on the incidence of: “…common mental disorders such as anxiety, depression, panic attacks and anhedonia (loss of capacity to experience pleasure). The results showed an increase in these disorders with a significant increase for girls from 19 percent to 32 percent. But the latest sets of results are even more dramatic. There has been an increase for both sexes: boys are now on 21 percent, and girls are at a staggering rate of 44 percent.” [1] Reasons for such a change left most social scientists and psychologists floundering ranging from: “… declines in family life, rises in inequality or reductions in social cohesion.” However, all of those factors seemed to be the effects rather than the cause.

Enter American Psychologist Jean Twenge: “…whose most recent work has been to analyse what she describes as a ‘narcissism epidemic’ in the US that is disproportionately affecting women. Her meta-analysis covered 37,000 college students. It found that in 1982, 15 percent got high scores on a narcissism personality index; by 2006 it was 25 percent – and the largest share of this increase was women.” And further: “…in the 1950s only 12 percent of college students agreed that ‘I am an important person’, but by the late 80s it was 80 percent. In 1967, only 45 percent agreed that ‘being well-off is an important life goal’, but by 2004 the figure was 74 percent.” [2]

Twenge and W. Keith Campbell’s findings are included in their 2009 book: Living in the Age of Entitlement: The Narcissism Epidemic that describes  that: we are living through the results of something very rotten indeed being expressed with increasingly alacrity through the minds of the young. They reveal that: “Nearly 1 out of 10 of Americans in their twenties, and 1 out of 16 of those of all ages, has experienced the symptoms of NPD. Even these shocking numbers are just the tip of the iceberg; lurking underneath is the narcissistic culture that has drawn in many more. The narcissism epidemic has spread to the culture as a whole, affecting both narcissistic and less self-centred people.” [3]

Authors Twenge and Campbell paint a picture of Western culture in dire need of a sense of meaning and purpose away from the thrall of artifice:

On a reality TV show, a girl planning her sixteenth birthday party wants a major road blocked off so a marching band can precede her grand entrance on a red carpet. A book called “My Beautiful Mommy” explains plastic surgery to young children whose mothers are going under the knife for the trendy “Mommy Makeover.” It is now possible to hire fake paparazzi to follow you around snapping your photograph when you go out at night — you can even take home a faux celebrity magazine cover featuring the pictures.

A popular song declares, with no apparent sarcasm, “I believe that the world should revolve around me!” People buy expensive homes with loans far beyond their ability to pay — or at least they did until the mortgage market collapsed as a result. Babies wear bibs embroidered with “Supermodel” or “Chick Magnet” and suck on “Bling” pacifiers while their parents read modernized nursery rhymes from This Little Piggy Went to Prada. People strive to create a “personal brand” (also called “self-branding”), packaging themselves like a product to be sold. Ads for financial services proclaim that retirement helps you return to childhood and pursue your dreams. High school students pummel classmates and then seek attention for their violence by posting YouTube videos of the beatings.

Although these seem like a random collection of current trends, all are rooted in a single underlying shift in the American psychology: the relentless rise of narcissism in our culture. Not only are there more narcissists than ever, but non-narcissistic people are seduced by the increasing emphasis on material wealth, physical appearance, celebrity worship, and attention seeking. Standards have shifted, sucking otherwise humble people into the vortex of granite countertops, tricked-out MySpace pages, and plastic surgery. A popular dance track repeats the words: ‘success, fame, glamour” over and over, declaring that all other values has “either been discredited or destroyed.[4]

An important point is made in the introduction that “Narcissism is a psycho-cultural affliction rather than a physical disease, but the model fits remarkably well.” Indeed it does. This understanding is vital for comprehending the depth to which psychopathy has filtered down from the top after similarly infecting the centres of power within all institutions, something we will explore in depth. For now, what do the authors consider to be the causes?

Twenge and other psychologists believe one of the primary drivers is parenting supported by the competitive world of the consumer market. Aside from the mass-market entertainment industry that thrives on narcissistic themes, the constant drip-drip of pathologies in both public and private institutions and governing bodies which are preventing alternative and more integrative frameworks from appearing. Meantime, parents and teachers will inevitably pass on learned behaviour and unconscious narcissistic traits.

Benczur-narcissus

Narcissus by Gyula Benczúr

The very nature of parenting in British and American societies will be fraught with difficulties. The happy, well-adjusted and emotionally nourished child seems to be disappearing. Due to the emotional osmosis that occurs from the womb to the formative years and beyond, parental influence deeply imprints the child’s emerging personality. If the parents have any number of unconscious fears or unresolved character deformations they will certainly appear in their offspring to a greater or lesser degree. The modifying properties will be dependent on the child’s inherent will, strength and spiritual capacities to overcome such influences and forge his own unique destiny. As s/he proceeds through schooling these parental influences will rage for dominance in the mind until such time as developmental thresholds are surmounted and integrated. If not, then the personality health is held back by a number of traumas, large or small, that nevertheless have a direct connection to early childhood parental influence. These internal and external influences meet and cause all kinds of fears, insecurities, anxieties and confusion to manifest along with the atrophying of natural emotional development. By fourteen or fifteen it will be evident that a fully-rounded out individual who is able to make his or her way in the world is not present, or if it is, it is the narcissistic false personality that is empty within and sporadically capable without. His parental pathologies, minor or major, now mix with his own to create the false image and the commensurate pain and suffering that ensues to keep that façade alive.

Clinical psychology 101 will tell us that the absence of self-awareness and blind-spots in the parents regarding their own fears and neuroses, emotional traumas of the past and present will seed themselves in the new-born as unconsciously learned behaviours. It is vital that would-be parents seeking the best for their unborn child understand that the only way to reduce the danger of one’s child developing a narcissistic personality disorder in our present times, is for them to embark on a process of self-knowledge and self-awareness prior to the birth so that unresolved psychological “blockages” or underlying disorders are recognised and a method of healing initiated.  If the parents can reduce the level of problems within and mitigate their transference to the arriving child, perhaps this is the greatest parental gift one can give to an emerging soul.

Why is it that we are seeing serious personality disorders in teenagers and young adults that seem to come from families with no presence of overt abuse? The above describes a new form of dysfunction that is quite different to the overt emotional, physical/sexual abuse that can occur within the family environment. What we have here is a type of parental position within the family that confers a covert-narcissism, where the needs of the parents take precedent of the needs of the child or children which is sacrificed for the good of “family appearances.” This is a largely unconscious dynamic on the part of the parents (or single parent) and usually occurs sometime during the developmental stage of differentiation between child and adult i.e. when the child begins to assert his identity and seeks to become individual.

What is interesting is that the needs of the child within these types of families are certainly met when they are babies or toddlers. As s/he grows up a more skilful parenting based on self-knowledge is required and when the true nature of the relationship becomes known. Psychologists Stephanie Donaldson-Pressman and Robert M. Pressman describe the process:

As the child’s psychological needs become more of a factor in the life of the family, the narcissistic family truly develops. The parent system is unable to adapt to meet the child’s needs, and the child, in order to survive, must be the one to adapt. The inversion process starts: the responsibility for meeting needs gradually shifts from the parent to the child. Whereas in infancy the parents may have met the needs of the child, now the child is more and more attempting to meet the needs of the parent, for only in this way can the child gain attention, acceptance, and approval….the needs of children, especially the emotional needs, increase geometrically as their tractability decreases. [5]

A host of reasons from the parents’ point of view can interfere with this process where their own needs – due to stress, mental illness, work demands etc. – are placed before the needs of their child. This largely refers to emotional nourishment rather than material demands. As the child feels misunderstood and neglected he begins to draw attention to the fact and a battle is set in motion between the parents’ needs and the child with the result that in sometimes subtle ways affection and attention are withheld so that the child is forced to confront his own emotional confusion. This means the child’s emotional needs go unattended and his independence and opportunity to learn about himself and the process at work is denied. He waits and reacts to parental expectations which relates to passivity and reaction rather than an emerging healthy independence. This breeds dependency and insecurity based on the reflection of the parents’ needs and expectations rather than his own.

This frustrated need for validation becomes a driving force in all external relations along with an undercurrent of anger and unhappiness leading to depression, chronic dissatisfaction, poor self-esteem and lack of confidence. As he sought to find his true personality the absence of an emotional foundation comes back to haunt him as indecisiveness and indecision due to an over-reliance on external cues and with no role-models to show him the way forward. If others’ needs and expectations have taken over his own then it is those to which he will identify, further eroding his sense of self. The net result of all this is the loss of the child’s true identity and the appropriation of a number of pathologies, the most common of which is overt narcissism.

The only way forward for such an individual is via acceptance and responsibility. Acceptance arrives when he understands that what happened was beyond his control and the chance to take responsibility for your his own psychological health. Most of all: forgiveness. Parents are immersed in the same world as their children and they are victims of the same to varying degrees. But victim-hood, as we will discover, must not become an escape from reality or an excuse to repeat the same patterns. The only way to break the hold of narcissistic tendencies and pathologies in the world at large is to heal our emotions and accrue knowledge of their presence in ourselves and our environment. Without this will to heal, we all become “preformatted” to fit into the emerging narcissistic culture. The factors leading to parental ignorance of these matters derive from the pathologies we have looked at previously and will go into greater depth as we continue.

What is perhaps even more disturbing is the twist on reality dispensed by the American Psychological Association who believes that because narcissism has become so ubiquitous it should be re-evaluated as a personality disorder.

Skodol, MD, chair of the DSM-5’s personality disorder work group and a psychiatry professor at the University of Arizona College of Medicine believes: “There is a fair amount of literature suggesting that narcissism is a dimension varying amongst people and across disorders,” and: “not necessarily a disorder in and of itself.” Yet according to Thomas Arthur Widiger, PhD, a University of Kentucky psychology professor who served on the DSM-5’s research planning committee the new decision was not “… based on a systematic or objective review of the data and, if implemented, would have a chilling effect on personality disorder research.” Widiger is unequivocal as to the result of such a ruling: “By turning narcissistic personality disorder into a list of traits that will lack official coding within a medical record, you are essentially relegating it to a sidebar that will unlikely draw much research or diagnostic interest.” [6]

Many psychiatrists and psychologists concur as it will play right into the hands of further pathologies arising like building blocks on the firm foundations of normalised narcissism.

What if extreme entitlement and exploitation of others makes these individuals more likely to extreme forms of rage, aggression and violence against innocent people even in the absence of provocation? In fact, recent scholarship has identified this probability in narcissists along with some researchers suggesting that pathological narcissism may actually be psychopathy: “…when egocentricity, lack of empathy, and sense of superiority of the narcissist blends with the impulsivity, deceitfulness, and criminal tendencies of the antisocial, the result is a psychopathic individual who seeks gratification of selfish impulses through any means without remorse or empathy.”  [7]

The Rise of Narcissism and the Loss of Meaning I

 By M.K. Styllinski

“Every age develops its own peculiar forms of pathology, which express in exaggerated form its underlying character structure.”

Christopher Lasch

According to Greek mythology Narcissus was a hunter from Thespiae in Boeotia, central Greece, renowned for his astonishing beauty. Everywhere he went the Greeks would marvel at his perfection, overcome with love and desire. The adoring stares became so commonplace that he began to expect the praise and admiration. Before long his vanity and pride came to match that beauty. A nymph called Echo (of the soul) fell in love with Narcissus but he rejected her. Heart-broken, she slowly shrivelled to nothing save her voice. Nemesis, the dark Goddess and Spirit of Divine justice or retribution chose to teach Narcissus a lesson. She led him to a tranquil pool as still as glass mirror and revealed to him an image of a beautiful man. Narcissus promptly fell in love with the image not understanding that it was his own reflection. Unable to leave his image of self-love he remained fixed to the spot until he died. When his body had gone all that remained in its place was a white flower – the narcissus.

The narcissist believes he is not only better than others but somehow special and destined for greatness. He may fantasize about power and exaggerate his achievements to attain it. Due to an essential lack within, he takes on the role of the archetypal vampire that must seek energy from others in order to function. Boastfulness and haughtiness hide poor self-esteem which means constant praise and validation is vital. Everything is focused on externals without any attempt to address the inner self; to do so would be to tear down the huge façade that has been carefully created since childhood. A hyper-sensitivity flows through all of his interactions often creating an anxiety that his façade will be breached at any time and people will discover the awful truth – that he is devoid of any substance within.

Intellectual superiority is all important for maintaining his own conviction that he is significant. This cements the perceived right that he should have special attention and admiration. Whether the narcissist is a spiritual guru, lawyer or bank manager, an automatic sense of entitlement will exist. Therefore, everyone is inferior if they do not match up to his own grandiose visions however impractical and subjective they may be. He becomes jealous if he feels that others are advancing in matters of money or love and expects others to go along with his plans, taking advantage of their good will and if necessary, projecting an image of a person that is tough or unemotional, though inside he is emotionally weak and immature. What is more, if success seems to elude him, his bitterness and cynicism will increase to the point where relief will only be obtained by remorselessly criticising others. Yet, if the tables are turned and you criticise or disparage his carefully maintained goals and self-image he will often become highly aggressive in the defence of his precious, subjective realm. [1] (You can imagine the implications within the field of high-level politics).

Narcissus-Caravaggio_(1594-96)_edited

Narcissus by Caravaggio depicts Narcissus gazing at his own reflection.

Narcissists lie so often and convincingly that they come to believe their own fabrications. Ans since lying is intrinsic to their need for pathological self-validation one might as well equate it with eating and drinking. People are seen as tools to get to where he wants to go; they are a means to an end, only worth interacting with insofar as they reflect and augment his own image. Making mistakes and seeking perfection is the endless loop that keeps the narcissist forever chasing his own tail not realising that to obtain anything genuine there must be an authentic emotional interaction.

We may recognise symptoms of the narcissist within ourselves and it should come as no surprise that to varying degrees we all play the narcissist game. Pathological narcissism or Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD) means that such a façade is so deep, so hard-wired that is almost impossible to change and indicates a personality that has been almost entirely fabricated. There is no genuine, authentic representation of a person only a protective shell that was never left behind in childhood, possibly due to narcissistic parents and / or emotional trauma.

To make matters worse, many pathological narcissists do not seek treatment as they see nothing wrong. To diagnose yourself with “problems” means to breach your own “perfect” image and thus be vulnerable. The narcissist will brook no criticism of his false personality, a monstrous ego that acts as his only navigator of the outside world. It is a very real prison that casts the individual down a dark hole away from the light of self-awareness.

The above descriptions are generalised and there are different forms of narcissism that enhance certain attributes over and above others. For example, the compensatory narcissist derives his pathology from: “…an underlying sense of insecurity and weakness, rather than from genuine feelings of self-confidence and high self-esteem.” [2] The American psychologist Theodore Millon listed the primary categories of narcissism that can be increasingly found in populations today:

  • Unprincipled narcissist: including antisocial features. A charlatan—is a fraudulent, exploitative, deceptive and unscrupulous individual.
  • Amorous narcissist: including histrionic features. The Don Juan or Casanova of our times—is erotic, exhibitionist.
  • Compensatory narcissist: including negativistic (passive-aggressive), avoidant features.
  • Elitist narcissist: variant of pure pattern. Corresponds to Wilhelm Reich’s “phallic narcissistic” personality type.
  • Fanatic type: including paranoid features. An individual whose self-esteem was severely arrested during childhood, usually with major paranoid tendencies who holds onto an illusion of omnipotence. These people are fighting delusions of insignificance and lost value and are trying to re-establish their self-esteem through grandiose fantasies and self-reinforcement. If unable to gain recognition or support from others, they take on the role of a heroic or worshipped person with a grandiose mission. [3]

It does not take a huge leap of imagination to know that we are immersed in that same pool, all of us sharing to some degree or another, an image of ourselves we have mistaken for truth and meaning, where adorning the body and its material extensions is seen as the path to contentment and satisfaction. Many of us lead what we perceive to be perfectly healthy lives without a narcissistic bone in our bodies… But is that really true?

How much have we been changed by a culture that glorifies narcissistic themes and related pathologies as normal?

All psychopaths are narcissists but not all narcissists are psychopaths, the former having at least a vestigial conscience. But pathological narcissism – the “unprincipled narcissist”- is a hair’s breadth away from psychopathy and lies at the extreme end of the personality disorder scale. But varying degrees of this condition are astonishingly widespread, eroding our ability to live loving, mutually beneficial lives. Narcissists can congregate around the psychopath like tug-boats to an ocean liner and will pave the way for more invasive psychopathological reconnaissance into normal human territory. The widespread growth and dependence of info-tainment technology and the internet is only increasing the risk.

The late psychologist and social commentator Christopher Lasch believed that there was something very wrong about the foundations of society that produced such increases in narcissism. Though Freudian at heart, Lasch presented some fascinating psychological insights in his book: The Culture of Narcissism: American Life in an Age of Diminishing Expectations. He argued that it was the imposition of two social changes that brought the narcissistic personality to the front line of “normality” the first of which was the rapid changes in US society since the start of the 20th century and the second the institutions that began to redesign society according to those principle changes. He also highlighted the intrusion of the state into peoples’ lives, the commoditization of education, the rise of corporatism and the erosion of responsibility, all made possible by the reliance on fear as a tool of coercion.

Lasch mentions the rise of the self-help culture that, far from empowering and revealing the root causes of societal malaise, has ultimately given rise to a form of spiritual materialism and an unhealthy self-absorption that tranquilises the possibility of facing deeper work within the self. It represents another crutch that goes only so deep.

This is very much still a problem in much of the New Age movement [4] and various snake-oil sales techniques riding on the principles of the “Law of Attraction” and the publishing phenomenon of The Secret and its sequels which offer highly seductive marketing saddled to a veneer of spirituality. [5]  It is not that there is no truth in much of what passes for human potential, simply that it has been twisted and distorted to serve egoistic desires rather than the deeper issues inside. All is predicated on external desire and getting something you want and righteously deserve. As Lasch observes:

“The importance of such programs, however, lies not so much in their objectives as in the anxiety to which they appeal and the vision of reality that informs them – the perception that success depends on psychological manipulation and that all of life, even the ostensibly achievement-oriented realm of work, centres on the struggle for interpersonal advantage, the deadly game of intimidating friends and seducing people.” [6]

Our culture habitually turns the potential of spirituality into a commodity that can be bought or sold on a $500 course supplicating at the feet of the latest guru. The point of ancient spiritual wisdom is that it should be accessible, even though the application of those clear-cut truths may not be so easy. Nor is it something that can be neatly categorised into a concept or ready-made construct. In the words of Rabbi Alan Lurie: “It transforms us. It changes how we act, think and feel in all environments. And it is a connection, a profound contact with something and someone outside of ourselves.” [7]

In so much of the present New Age discourse, self-love and external gain becomes the primary objective often dressed up in seductive, feel-good modalities. Trusting in the ability of things to work out by themselves if we leave them alone seems lost in the chase to extract the pot of gold from external enticements rather than to focus some of that energy on addressing the negative traits within. New Age courses and products feed into such a preoccupation where the avoidance of struggle and growth is masked for proffered instant gains.

Kobutsu Malone from the Zen Buddhist perspective observes this dichotomy in blunt terms:

In our Western society materialism has become so all-encompassing that we have no clue as to any alternatives, since our foundation, our psychology, our spiritual leanings have all been contaminated by materialism. We have no way to relate to things other than materialistically. The New Age phenomenon is very much a materialistic approach in fact it is a thinly disguised system of conquest applied to what we perceive as the spiritual. In so many cases, our thirst for meaning, our need for fulfilment, can only manifest in terms of wanting to appropriate more “stuff.” In the New Age this means appropriating the spirituality of other cultures because we are so impoverished and have squandered our heritage and fatally polluted it with our materialistic attitude of conquest and ownership. [8]

Alongside spiritual capitalism it is the integration of East meets West which offers fertile new ground for unscrupulous gurus to take advantage of the well-intentioned, sensitive but naive individual. Parallel with the rise in sexual “freedom” and spiritual emancipation is covert authoritarianism in another, more subtle form. In understandably rejecting societal constraints in favour of perceived spiritual liberation it has opened the floodgates for financial and emotional extraction. True spiritual freedom rarely comes from adopting the role of devotee, it seems. When you are stripped of your values and conditioned “rules” you are in a fragile and susceptible state, ready to accept things that appeal to the conditioned self or ego. New identities form based on perceived trust, faith and belief. Yet more often than not, it is just another authoritarian structure developed from the personality of the guru with overtones of intellectual, emotional and/or sexual liberation as a means of spiritual ascension. Sometimes it is very difficult to know where a cult begins and where it ends.

Authors Joel Kramer and Diana Alstad from their book The Guru Papers talk about the rationale behind many spiritual movements headed by gurus at the top of a hierarchical structure of “devotion” with some unorthodox ways to metaphysical freedom. In some instances, the quickest path is through experiencing all desires under the guise of:

“… modernizing ancient esoteric methodologies (sometimes referred to as ‘tantric’) that attempted to bring self-realization through ritualistically breaking taboos. In the name of freeing people from their limitations and ‘hang-ups,’ this path is presented as the fastest track for contemporary Westerners to achieve spiritual goals, without undo austerity.”

The authors believe that this “ intoxicating message” feeds into the familiar belief patterns of “You can have it all” which means you can:

“… live out hidden desires and fantasies, experience any pleasure, break taboos around sex and even violence—and be spiritual besides. The assumption is that if one has or cultivates the right attitude (detachment), then ‘Anything goes.’ This seemingly liberating stance of “you-can-have-it-all” gurus has attracted many highly intelligent, experimental people. […]  This is but another example of the great myth that an external authority can be the source of inner freedom.” [9]

It is also another facet of a narcissistic culture bypassing spiritual authenticity in order to embrace the goodies of sensation.

Children are in the frontline to absorb the rise in pathologies inherited from society. It does no good to blame education or parents because they are already “victims” of the same and so the transference goes on at the family and institutional level. It is not that human beings are naturally out for themselves contrary to what the outdated Darwinists will tell you. It is learned behaviour. In fact, we are hard wired to cooperate with empathy, love and compassion but this wiring is easily co-opted given the right circumstances. [10] But when allowed to flower without pathological infection, altruistic intent and the resulting action not only gives meaning and substance to a person’s life, the transition from selfish to a form of selfless-ness is deeply rewarding for most who involve themselves in more than just the fulfilment of their own desires. Those special “mirror neurons” of empathy get firing and develop a feedback loop with the idea that when you benefit yourself and reach out with financial, mental, emotional or physical support the positive effects are perhaps far more potent that we may realise. [11]

Such a natural human dynamic has been lost and distorted however. And we will soon see why.

[4] The New Age or Human Potential movement is a very wide-ranging, heterogeneous phenomena of individuals and groups that traverse the fields of self-help; counselling; psychotherapy; astrology; channeling; psychic or clairvoyant interpretation; spiritualism; healing (spiritual / Reiki / crystal / earth) alternative or complimentary medicine; new physics; scared geometry; ufology; divination (I Ching, Tarot, Runes etc.); Crypto-Egyptology / anthropology; cosmology; neo-paganism; eco-psychology / deep ecology… to name but a few.The concepts that form the bedrock of the New Age include very briefly:Reincarnation – where the soul incarnates into a different human form in order to learn certain lessons and to offset the individuals karmic debt. The energy field or aura which encompasses all living things.Pantheism – Spirit resides in all things. The idea that we are all essentially “One” derives from this belief as well as other aspects listed below.
Multi-dimensional consciousness – the belief (and a certain amount of scientific support) that one may exist in different dimensions and thus experience different levels of perception and / or lives.Karma – the actions in one life that will determine the quality and type of your next incarnation i.e. your destiny.
“You Create your Own Reality” (YCYOR) – the belief that one can create one’s own reality by thinking positively and changing one’s perceptions about oneself and the external influences we encounter. This follows from the idea that “energy follows thought” and the related concept of the “Law of Attraction.” By extension, this posits the idea that the reality you now experience is a product of your own perception / thinking and thus you alone are master of your destiny. This is a primary pillar of New Age thought and is in my view, one of the most important tenets of New Age beliefs.
The “critical mass” / 100th monkey concept This is where an exponential momentum in awareness results in a collective change in consciousness and thus a socio-cultural revolution across the planet, as a whole.
Gaia theory – earth as living entity with consciousness. Systems theory, self-organization, and dissipative structures play a part in the new science. Environmental activism is obviously a close partner.
“The Great White Brotherhood” or “Masters of Wisdom” – a hierarchical “overshadowing” of a group of enlightened individuals said to include Buddha, Lord Maitreya, Sanat Kumura etc. that are said to direct human evolution. (These are occult concepts sourced from esoteric Tibetan Buddhism, freemasonry and Theosophy, among others).
“The Age of Aquarius.” A phase which refers to one procession of the astrological zodiac, said to lead to an age of enlightenment or – “New Age.”
Universalism / collectivism including the concept of a “New World Order.” Sometimes known as “globalism” or “One world” which proposes a new, Utopian age of enlightenment and social equality where disease and suffering are finally eradicated. This New Order includes the formation and implementation of a one world government, a one world religion, one world education system, one bank and one global economic system as well a one world spiritual philosophy. Group consciousness is the endlessly repeated theme and objective of this so-called spiritual New Order.
[5] ‘The Secret: The Spirituality of Narcissism’ by Stuart Davis, http://www.stuartdavis.com Apr 17 2009:  “The Secret uses valid (but partial) suppositions such as: Our thoughts and feelings are powerful and inflates them to a Kosmic (and false) scale, giving us: Our thoughts are the most powerful things on Earth. The secret takes a statement like Thought can influence reality and amplifies it to “Thoughts create reality.” Not just any thoughts, but YOUR thoughts. (By the way, are you a rape victim? I guess you created that reality with your thoughts. Was your family member killed in Iraq? I guessed you created that experience for yourself so you could learn from it. Wow. You are one sadistic cat.)  The Secret takes a truth like The Self is one with the Universe, and then immediately inserts the wrong self; The Ego.”
